Adolphus Washington: Predicting Who Gets the Call from His Top 4 Suitors

Edwin WeathersbyNov 11, 2011

One of the top high school DEs—and overall players—in the country, Adolphus Washington is getting close to making a decision. Washington originally was going to announce on November 9 but has postponed his announcement until later this month.

Washington amassed 23.5 sacks in his senior season and has offers from basically every major FBS program. But he has narrowed his schools down to a top four.

Let's see who they are and make a prediction.

Cincinnati

Yes—the Bearcats are in the race for the big-time DE prospect. You have to credit Butch Jones and his staff for remaining in the hunt for this long.

Another thing to consider is that Washington is a solid basketball prospect. As Cincinnati is a solid hoops school, this may factor into Washington's decision.

Don't count out Cincy, folks.

Michigan State

Ahh, yes—the Spartans. Another great basketball school with a good football reputation. Washington took a trip to East Lansing in October and loved it there.

It's also worth noting that Spartan pledge and fellow DE Se'Von Pittman has spoken to Washington about joining forces and wreaking havoc off the edge together.

You also have to wonder how much Washington has spoken with Tom Izzo.

Alabama

The Crimson Tide are an interesting team in this race. I say that because Alabama is the only school in Washington's top four that he has not taken an official visit to.

Washington says that his cousin goes to 'Bama and that he has a lot of family near the program. Therefore, he feels that a visit is not necessary.

His 6'5", 255-pound frame would be an excellent addition to the Tide's defense.

Ohio State

The fourth and final team on the list is The Ohio State University Buckeyes. The Buckeyes have been recruiting Washington for a long, long time and desperately want him. He's the top prospect in their state—and on their board.

Washington visited Columbus in late October for the Wisconsin game and was hosted by Braxton Miller. He got a chance to survey the atmosphere, talk in-depth to the coaches and check in about playing time.

Playing basketball also could be an option at Ohio State for Washington, depending on a few factors.

And the Winner Is...

Almost forgot—time for my prediction. This is a tough call, as I can see Washington ending up at any of the four schools.

But I'm going with Ohio State. The fact that Washington can stay home and play with players he knows for the marquee program in his native state will probably sway him. And he can compete for early playing time, too.

Look out for the other schools, but I'm predicting that the Buckeyes will ultimately win out.
