TNA Getting a New TV Show In 2009?

Joe Burgett Dec 15, 2008

For a while now we have been hearing people say that TNA needs to compete with the WWE. And a way to do that is by creating another TV Program. The WWE has RAW and SmackDown, along with ECW.

But TNA has only had TNA iMPACT! since they have existed. Now it looks like they are going to be getting another TV Program. According to pwrestlingnews.com "TNA Epix" will debut in 2009.

Since the transition to digital Television is upon us in February of 2009 then many more channels are going to be made. Most of your local shows such as NBC are creating an all sports or weather channel. And then they will have the regular channel you see now.

So it looks as if TNA could do it and programming for other places would not be hard to find. The WWE works on three TV stations. USA, MyNetwork TV, and SciFi. While TNA is on Spike TV.

There is no word on what channel it will be on just yet. But it looks like it may not be on Spike TV.

Here is more information I found on it:

"Ongoing series to join "iMPACT!" and "Xplosion" as TNA's leading broadcasts

"TNA Epix" will feature the most awe-inspiring and monumental moments, matches and superstars that shaped the face of TNA from its 2002 inception until today!

From the first TNA event in 2002 and the early Wednesday night Pay-Per-Views, to the Fox Sports Net era and the evolution of TNA on SpikeTV as well as the most recent wars inside the six-sided ring, the new program will include rare matches, archived footage, fresh historical commentary from the TNA superstars and so much more.

"We are extremely excited about ‘Epix' joining the TNA broadcasting universe," said Kevin Sullivan, Director of TNA Television.

"While ‘iMPACT!' is undoubtedly the crown-jewel of our worldwide presence, ‘Epix' will chronicle the amazing history of TNA and allow our fans to re-live some of their favorite moments."

"Epix" will be produced by Bill Banks at TNA's new state-of-the-art television headquarters in Nashville.

TNA Television currently produces over 350 hours of programming annually, including "iMPACT!", Xplosion, International broadcasts, DVDs, SpikeTV specials, online videos and much more."

Since it will not be another actual live or new TV show as a WWE RAW or SmackDown would be, I don't see it doing well.

It could draw a little attention of course if it is on while WWE programming is not though. Since TNA iPMACT is on Thursday and WWE programming is on Monday, Tuesday, and Friday; it may be getting attention on a Wednesday.

That is if they do it on Wednesdays of course. They will not put it on Thursdays since iPMACT is on then, so Wednesday would be the better choice. If they move iMPACT to Monday and put it on Thursday it would be interesting to me.

WCW Nitro used to be on Mondays and they fought it out in the Monday Night Wars against WWF RAW is WAR. And they beat them in ratings a lot. I don't see TNA doing that since WWE is way more popular.

Plus Nitro was a three-hour show many times, and WWE was only two. If TNA wants to go three hours to compete that might work. Of course they would have to keep their best matches on in that hour.

For the time being, I don't see TNA moving to Monday nights. But you never know, of course.

What do you guys think about TNA's new "Epix" program?
