Pacquiao vs. Marquez: Weigh-In Results and Updates for Superfight

Mike ChiariNov 11, 2011

With the official weigh in for Manny "Pac-Man" Pacquiao's WBO welterweight championship defense against "Dinamita" Juan Manuel Marquez set for Friday at 6 p.m. ET, the time for talk is almost over, but that hasn't stopped Pacquiao's strength and conditioning coach Alex Ariza.

According to Ariza, Pacquiao weighed in at 143 lbs. last night. Because of that, he expects Pac-Man to be comfortably at or below the 144-lb. catchweight. No official weight has been reported for Marquez yet, but Ariza noted that Dinamita looks much bigger than he has in previous fights.

"

(Marquez) put on a lot muscle, but we'll have to see what happens at the weigh-in. It's hard for me to say what's going on.

Ariza also offered his own prediction for the fight. Despite Marquez's increased fitness, Ariza suspects that Pac-Man should score an easy victory. In fact, Ariza doesn't expect Marquez to get out of the first round against Pacquiao on Saturday.

"

I won't be surprised if Manny knocks him out in the first round...When I say knockout, I think Manny knocks him down, jumps on top of him and beats the (expletive) out of him and they stop it.

"

The weigh-in is certain to be a spectacle, and it is even being televised live on HBO. There tends to be some funny business at weigh-ins sometimes, and with the bad blood that has been brewing between Pacquiao and Marquez, that could be the case on Friday.

Pacquiao has felt disrespected by Marquez in recent weeks, but Marquez can't figure out why. Much of it probably stems from the fact that Marquez maintains he won the first two meetings between the fighters despite a draw and a split-decision in favor of Pacquiao.

"

I don’t know [why] Pacquiao is very mad for [what] I said, said Marquez during a media presentation Saturday at the Sta. Anita Race Park in Arcadia, California. I think the last two fights, the people know who won.I think I won the last two fights [and] the people think the same.

"

Both Pacquiao and Marquez seem to be mild-mannered guys outside the ring, but with emotions running high, it will be interesting to see if they mix it up at all during the weigh-in, especially with the fight just a day away.

Continue to check back to results of the weigh-in, as well as any reports regarding extra-curricular activity that may or may not take place.

UPDATE: Friday, November 11th, 7:30 p.m. EST

Both fighters have no been officially weighed and measured. The numbers are in and both met the limit of 144 lbs.

Pacquiao comes in at 143 lbs. and Marquez at 142 lbs. The major point is that both fighters look to be at their absolute fittest.

Pac-Man will not have a great advantage in weight as Marquez seems to have bulked up and the added weight looks fantastic on him. Pacquiao, for his effort, is without an ounce of fat on him.
