Fantasy Football Projections Week 10: Starters to Sideline

Brooke McGeeNov 10, 2011

By Week 10, coaches and fantasy football players alike have gotten into the full swing of things. As the sole director of your own private team, fantasy choices come with a heavy responsibility.

If played correctly you earn yourself bragging rights, much like Mike McCarthy has over his championship Green Bay Packers right now. Bench the wrong player, though, or miss a newscast featuring a surprise injury during an early week practice and you may be the laughing stock of your attentive and competitive friends.

For Week 10 here are some starters that you need to bench, or risk your fantasy reputation on keeping them in.

AZ QB Kevin Kolb

1 of 5

Being the quarterback doesn’t mean that you aren’t susceptible to injury. Even if you are one that is concerned about your starting streak, you may merely throw the opening ball and then be banned to the sidelines for the remainder of the game.

That stands true for Kevin Kolb with the Arizona Cardinals just the same as anyone else. Fantasy players expected him back this week after the toe injury that kept him out in Week 9, but that’s likely not the case. If you normally start with him and you anticipated his return, keep him sidelined for the time being.

John Skelton is expected to start on Sunday against the Philadelphia Eagles so don’t put much merit in Kolb, even if he does throw in the first quarter.

Running Backs

2 of 5

Running backs typically put up some good numbers for fantasy, but not when the players are on the injury list. Running backs have the most injuries that are affecting Week 10. To be on the safe side, you’re probably going to want to check out the few you have tucked under your belt.

There are a number that did not participate in practice this week and are unlikely to be key contributors.

Jahvid Best with the Detroit Lions, Dallas Cowboys' Felix Jones, Peyton Hillis with the Cleveland Browns, Joseph Addai from the Indianapolis Colts and New York Giants RB Ahmad Bradshaw should all be second guessed before put to play.

Wide Receivers

3 of 5

Wide receivers are just as high on the list of non-participating injured players for Week 10.

Devin Hester, Chicago Bears, and Pittsburgh Steelers’ Emmanuel Sanders are among them.

In addition to that, Miles Austin of the Cowboys, Andre Johnson from the Texans and Lance Moore of the New Orleans Saints all refrained from practice this week. Doesn’t seem like a lot of options are going to be put before them for some big things this week, so rearrange your starters.

Rian Lindell

4 of 5

Buffalo Bills kicker Rian Lindell may be subbed out for the first time since 2002 due to a shoulder injury. It’s not quite for sure whether he will be playing or not, but this is one fantasy player that we are not used to having to question.

No matter who your sub kicker is, you’re going to want to swap them out. Lindell is projected to be out for a number of weeks.

Tight Ends

5 of 5

Tight ends Jared Cook of the Titans and teammates Jermaine Gresham and Donald Lee of the Bengals all sat out for the week. Their involvement in Week 10 games is very sketchy.

You may be the type that wants to keep personal favorites in for sentiment, but if you really care about your fantasy football score and reputation, you’re going to want to look elsewhere for your offensive players.

Good luck!
