Miami Marlins: Jose Reyes "Almost Done Deal", Brass Impressed with Cespedes

James BondmanNov 10, 2011

The Miami Marlins are making their new identity known to everyone in MLB, shedding every last bit of the frugality that made them infamous among the fans, critics, and media. After inviting Jose Reyes to visit the ballpark on Wednesday, there is a sentiment that he will take his talents to South Beach

Jorge Sedano of 790 The Ticket tweeted Thursday night that the Marlins pursuit of Jose Reyes is drawing to a close and according to a source, its "almost a done deal."

If that happens to be the case, get prepared for a surprise appearance by the shortstop at the unveiling event.

Furthermore, Sedano mentioned that the team is inquiring about the availability of the Oakland Atheltics southpaw and local product Gio Gonzalez.

The Marlins covet a left handed starting pitcher to go alongside ace Josh Johnson in the rotation.

But if the Marlins were to trade for Gonzalez, it probably will not include outfielder Logan Morrison as the team has labeled him "off-limits" at least for all deals except for the Rays James Shields. Dealing for Gonzalez might cost the Marlins a package that could include Emilio Bonifacio (if team signs Cespedes and Reyes), possibly Matt Dominguez, and a minor league pitcher perhaps a Chad James.

Sedano followed that up with another tweet about Cuban phenom Yoenis Cespedes, stating that the Marlins brass (Jeffrey Loria, Tony Perez, Ozzie Guillen, and Larry Beinfest) came away impressed with the 26-year old outfielder.

The Marlins envision Cespedes as their Opening Day centerfielder who could find himself as high as the two-hole in a lineup with plus power and superior speed.

In other rumors, a variation of a Marlins new uniform made the rounds on Twitter. A picture was taken of a select-a-seat promotion for ticket holders at the new ballpark with what shows a player modeling the tentative new uniform. However, the uniform could be a prototype and not the finished product.

There have been plenty of leaks over the few weeks but on November 11th, 2011 we will know for sure what the Miami Marlins will wear.
