Tennessee vs. Arkansas: Last Minute Spread Info, Line, BCS Impact and Prediction
The Arkansas Razorbacks (8-1, 4-1) look to continue their rise up the BCS standings as they host the Tennessee Volunteers (4-5, 0-5) of the SEC East.
The Razorbacks have a great chance to win and keep themselves right behind the LSU Tigers as the only team that can take LSU down in the SEC West division. Tennessee needs this game to get back into the win column—and get their first SEC win.
Where: Razorback Stadium: Fayetteville, Ark.
When: Saturday, Nov. 12, at 6:00 p.m. ET
Watch: ESPN2 and ESPN3.com
Betting Line: According to Bodog, it’s Arkansas -14. Take the Razorbacks, as they've started slowly in their most recent games but have found ways in the late third/fourth quarters to take over and stretch the margins past two touchdowns.
Over/Under: The over/under for this game is listed at 54.5 points. Take the under, as Tennessee’s offense is bad this year, whereas their defense is good. The Vols will keep the Razorbacks off the scoreboard for a majority of the game, which will make for an easy under.
Key Injuries for Arkansas:
WR Marquel Wade was suspended for his vicious hit during the Vanderbilt game two weeks ago. He sat out Week 10 and is eligible to return this week.
RB Kody Walker is out of this game with a stress fracture in his shin. Walker has had surgery on the fracture.
T Mitch Smothers missed Week 10’s game against South Carolina with an undisclosed injury and is still questionable for Saturday’s game with that same injury.
Key Injuries for Tennessee:
QB Tyler Bray is still dealing with a broken thumb that he suffered back in October.
DL Steven Fowikes is out of this game due to academic reasons.
WR Justin Hunter is out for the remainder of the season due to a torn ACL.
BCS Implications: Arkansas needs a victory this week, as any loss will end their chances at sneaking into a BCS game and possibly the SEC title game.
Keys to a Arkansas Win:
- Let QB Tyler Wilson control the offense and open the game with a big touchdown drive. If Arkansas can get Wilson going, they will win this game easily.
- Try to get the running game going so it can take pressure off of Wilson. If RB Dennis Johnson can find some running lanes through the Tennessee defense, it will make for an easier time for the passing game.
- Put constant pressure on Tennessee backup QB Justin Worley. The freshman quarterback has struggled to get this Tennessee offense into the end zone since taking over for Tyler Bray.
Keys to a Tennessee Win:
- Get Tauren Poole involved in the offense in a big way. Tennessee cannot expect Justin Worley to win this game by himself on Saturday. They have to get a big game from Poole.
- Limit the turnovers from Worley. If he is pressured on Saturday, he will force throws and create easy interceptions for the Arkansas secondary.
- Hope that Wilson makes a lot of mistakes. This Razorbacks team has shown that they can start slowly—as they did against Vanderbilt. If they do, Tennessee has a chance on Saturday for a huge upset.
Prediction: This Tennessee team is just too injured to keep up with this good Arkansas team. Arkansas’ offense will be dominant this week and will control the game from start to finish.
Final Score: Arkansas 41 - Tennessee 10
