NFL Week 10 Picks: Predicting QBs Who Will Have Their Teams Flying High

Ryan PhillipsNov 10, 2011

Quarterback play is more important than ever in the NFL, and this year, several teams are rolling simply because they have fantastic signal-callers. In Week 10 of the 2011 NFL season, three quarterbacks have a chance to dominate and send their teams to wins.

Aaron Rodgers

What else can be said about Rodgers' fantastic start to the 2011 season? He has led the Green Bay Packers to an 8-0 record, while possibly having the best first half of a season in NFL history. The 27-year-old's numbers are simply staggering.

Through eight games, Rodgers has completed 192-of-265 passes for 2,615 yards, with 24 touchdowns and three interceptions. He leads the NFL in completion percentage (72.5), yards per attempt (9.88) and passer rating (129.1). In fact, his quarterback rating is a ridiculous 28.5 points higher than Drew Brees' second-place number of 100.6.

In Week 10, the Packers face the Minnesota Vikings at home on Monday Night Football. There is no reason to think Rodgers' streak of insane performances will stop now. The Vikings boast the NFL's 30th-ranked pass defense, allowing a whopping 273.6 yards per game. Rodgers and his receivers should pick Minnesota apart and cruise to a 9-0 record.

Drew Brees

As mentioned above, Brees' passer rating of 100.6 is second-best in the NFL, and he has led his New Orleans Saints to a 6-3 start. This weekend, the Saints face the 5-3 Atlanta Falcons, who rank 19th in the NFL against the pass (allowing 245.3 yards per game).

Considering that Brees leads the league's second-best passing attack (319.1 yards per game), the Saints should be able to throw all over the Falcons. Brees leads the NFL in passing yards (3,004), attempts (379) and completions (269), while he is second in touchdowns (21) and completion percentage (71.0 percent). In fact, his 269 completions are 57 more than Tom Brady, who occupies second-place with 212.

Brees should be able to lead the Saints past the Falcons on Sunday and move his team to 7-3 on the season.

Matt Schaub

The Houston Texans have dealt with major injury problems to their top skill position players, yet have somehow managed to get things together and enter Sunday's matchup with the 4-4 Tampa Bay Buccaneers with a 6-3 record.

Now that running back Arian Foster is healthy, all quarterback Matt Schaub needs is for All-Pro wideout Andre Johnson to heal up. That probably won't happen this week, but Schaub and the Texans will be facing a Tampa Bay defense that ranks 28th in the NFL against the pass (giving up 266.5 yards per game).

Without his top target available, Schaub has still been solid this season. He has completed 167-of-277 passes (60.3 percent) for 2,237 yards, with 13 touchdowns and six interceptions. His quarterback rating of 92.6 ranks eighth of the 34 passers who qualify.

This weekend, against a very weak Buccaneers secondary, I expect Schaub to put up great numbers and lead Houston to a solid road win.
