Wilson Ramos: Kidnapping Reminds Us There Are More Important Things Than Sports
Just a couple of days ago, most baseball fans were wondering how much money Albert Pujols or Prince Fielder were going to get, and what team they would land with.
Just look at the official Twitter account of the MLB and it's "Question of the Day."
"Question of the Day: Who would you rather have—Pujols or Prince?"

Now those concerns seem absolutely minuscule with the recent news that Washington Nationals catcher Wilson Ramos has been kidnapped outside of his home in Venezuela.
First of all, it has been confirmed that Ramos is still alive.
A Venezuelan police Twitter feed says: “State law enforcement officials confirm ballplayer Ramos alive.”
For now, we can breathe a tad bit easier, but most importantly, we need to continue to hope for a safe return for the 24-year-old.
Amidst tons of huge sports stories both positive and negative right now, this one, without a doubt, deserves the most of our attention right now. We are dealing with the safety of a human life, after all.
Nothing, and I mean nothing, is more important than that.
This whole development is extremely unfortunate, but it is serving as a reminder that there are indeed more important things in life than sports.
Sports is an integral part of our culture, and it can sometimes serve as a way to forget about things we'd like to forget about. But there are still always cases where something bigger has to take precedent.
This is one of those cases.
As much as you'd probably like to turn your shoulder and concentrate on happier sports stories, you just can't do that right now.
You can't worry about who you'd rather have between Prince and Pujols because the Wilson Ramos story deserves all of your attention.
Even if we can't make a huge impact, we as a country need to do whatever we can to help Ramos and his family in this dire situation. Whatever difference we can make is necessary at this point.
Because sometimes, there are things more important than sports.
