Mike McQueary: Why His Silence Is All Penn State Has Left

Mike McQueary has yet to publicly speak since being named by sources as the graduate assistant who allegedly saw Jerry Sandusky having anal intercourse with a 10-year-old boy in the Penn State Nittany Lions’ showers.

I’m sure Penn State is keeping it that way, or at the very least, is quite happy he has decided to do that.

At this point, public opinion is strongly against McQueary, as evidenced by Darren Rovell’s admittedly small survey of the Twitter universe.

He’s pretty furious about the Penn State administration's choice to keep him locked into his assistant coach position and not let him go like Joe Paterno and university president Graham Spanier were last night.

Perhaps officials at the university feel that since McQueary was never publicly named as the graduate assistant who allegedly saw the actions in 2002 and reported them to Paterno and Spanier, as well as the vice president and athletic director of the school, he cannot be reprimanded.

Perhaps they do not want him to talk and further tarnish the Nittany Lions' reputation, if that is even possible at this point.

It is clear from the Grand Jury report on Sandusky that McQueary says he saw what he saw and reported it to people who should have done more.

It’s also clear that McQueary shouldn’t have ran away like a coward. Instead, he should have stopped the actions right there and then, or at the least called authorities instead of his father.

The university is eventually going to have to deal with McQueary, so they may as well do it now while they are clearing house rather than let him and the angry public wait it out.

They already washed their hands of a president and coach, who was the face of the school and football team, why are they delaying a decision on an assistant?
