Penn State Riots Video: Watch Students Destroy Property After Joe Paterno Fired

Alex KayNov 10, 2011

Happy Valley went crazy last night.

After the Penn State University Board of Trustees announced last night that they would immediately be relieving head football coach Joe Paterno of his duties with the Nittany Lions, riots broke out on and around the State College campus.

The state deployed riot police late last night to deal with the growing mob of angry protesters to help maintain order in the usually peaceful campus and town.

At around 12:20 a.m. ET, a mass message was sent out to those gathered to disperse because the protests turned violent.

A WTAJ news van was flipped over by angry supporters of Paterno and other property was beginning to get damaged.

At around the 1:25 mark in the video you can see people start to crazily attack a light post while people chant like lunatics around it.

At around the 2:00 mark, the thing shatters and topples to the ground like a felled tree.

What was the point of that?

Is destroying campus property going to bring Joe Paterno back?

No.

Is putting innocent members of the student body in harms way going to magically turn back the clock and stop Jerry Sandusky from sexually violating young children?

No.

These protesters need to stop and think what they are doing and if they really want to send a clear message to the school, they must boycott the game on Saturday.

It’s the last home game of the year for the Nittany Lions and the first in 46 years that won’t feature Joe Paterno as head coach pacing the sidelines.

This would harm the school financially and also show their support for the 84-year-old coach who was fired.

Causing damage to school property is just going to hurt the student’s pockets when tuition gets raised to hire more security for this campus.
