Pacquiao vs. Marquez: Pac-Man Will Send Marquez to an Early Retirment

Austin GreenNov 10, 2011

This Saturday will be the last fight of Juan Manuel Marquez's illustrious boxing career.

Marquez hasn't explicitly said that he will retire if he loses to Manny Pacquiao, but I can't picture him sticking around.

This will be the 38-year-old's 60th professional bout.

He has won 53 fights. He's knocked out 39 opponents. And he's won eight world titles in three different weight classes.

Simply put, short of beating his rival Pacquiao, there's nothing else Marquez can accomplish in the ring.

And make no mistake about it, he will not beat Pacquiao.

Pacquiao is younger, faster and more talented. In their first match, Pacquiao floored him three times in the first round.

Now, they are fighting at welterweight, 17 pounds heavier than their first bout.

Pacquiao has been mangling opponents at welterweight over his last six fights. He knocked out Oscar De La Hoya, Ricky Hatton and Miguel Cotto, then punished Joshua Clottey, Antonio Margarito and Shane Mosley for 12 brutal rounds.

Marquez, in his only fight at welterweight, was embarrassed by Floyd Mayweather.

Marquez has said that his training regiment for this fight was much different than his first try at the weight class. However, the only difference in the result will be that this time he won't last 12 rounds.

Pacquiao now has devastating power in both of his hands, rather than just his left. I'm expecting sheer dominance from the Filipino legend on Saturday.

After being beaten down by his rival for the third time, Marquez should walk away from the sport. There's nothing else he can accomplish and I'm sure he doesn't want to continue going home to his kids with a bloodied and swollen face.

This Saturday will be the last time we see Juan Manuel Marquez in the boxing ring.
