Jon Sandusky: Browns Director Doing Team Strong Disservice by Staying with Team

Eric BallNov 9, 2011

What are you thinking, Jon Sandusky?

The son of Jerry Sandusky has decided not to take a leave of absence from his job as Cleveland Browns director of player personnel after previous reports said he would.

How can he not take a leave of absence?

How do you properly conduct business knowing that your father is accused of molesting children? How can you concentrate when every single TV, radio and Internet outlet is comparing your father to some of the worst people in the history of the world? How do you discuss the Browns' receiving issues when your father is likely going to be in jail for the rest of your life?

It’s mind-boggling.

There is no way Sandusky can be a positive contributor to the Browns right now. None.

All he’s doing is becoming a distraction for a team that has already been dealing with the Peyton Hillis contract headache. This is the last thing a struggling 3-5 team needs.

Sandusky hasn’t been available for comment, but I think Cleveland fans need an explanation.

He isn’t being noble by staying at his job—he’s being stubborn. The younger Sandusky is trying to show the country that he’s completely fine. He’s acting like this is just another college scandal that has plagued college football recently.

It’s not.

This story is 100 times bigger than that. This is potentially the biggest scandal in the history sports.

Don’t sit there and act like you can still do your job competently. I’m not calling for Sandusky to resign, he did nothing wrong, but he has to take a step back and console the rest of his family.

You know, like his mom, a woman that is going through the sort of pain that few could ever contemplate.

Evaluating potential playmakers for the Browns to draft just doesn’t sound important right now.

Eventually this will all calm down and sanity can resume, but that’s not going to be for a long time.

Take a seat, Sandusky. For you, your mom and for the Cleveland Browns.

It’s incredible how many people are affected by the actions of one sick and disturbed man.
