Pacquiao vs. Mayweather: Freddie Roach Right to Call out Money May

Gabe ZaldivarNov 11, 2011

Freddie Roach thinks the world of Juan Manuel Marquez. That may be the reason Manny Pacquiao's camp has been training so hard for this bout. Now as for Floyd Mayweather Jr., not so much.

Freddie Roach came out and vocalized his feelings about two fighters. One will be fighting Pacquiao on Saturday, the other is a possible foe that would be the perfect measure of Pac-Man's talents.

ESPN quotes the legendary trainer on his thoughts. Let's begin with Marquez.

"

Marquez has become a more fan-friendly fighter; he isn't strictly a counterpuncher anymore. Let's face it, when you put muscle on, you put muscle on for one reason, and that's to exchange. I like that. If he wants to exchange with us, I think that's great. He's getting ready for a big fight.

"

Marquez has beefed up, but there is something more at work here. Pacquiao's camp has been working tirelessly in training. The reason is simple, Marquez is as close as you will find to a like-minded boxer that can match wits with Pac-Man.

As for wits, Roach is at his wits end with Floyd Mayweather and his claim that a fight with Pacquiao is around the corner, and very much on Pacquiao to make it happen.

"

[This fight is] going to be good for boxing because both guys are going to try their best and really, really go at it. This is a much more exciting fight than [Floyd] Mayweather.

"

I have to disagree with Roach only in this regard. Marquez will be an exciting fight, but nothing, and I mean nothing, can top what we would see in Pacquiao vs. Mayweather.

But I do find a lot to like when Roach goes off on the hype machine that is Money May.

"

But I'm getting kind of tired of Floyd, to be honest with you. Shut up and fight or not. He wants to make the rules, he wants to dictate everything. We'll fight him any day of the week, under Nevada state regulations. Who the f--- is he to try and make the rules?

"

Mayweather did come out and state that he is ready to fight Pacquiao on May 5th. Actually, he had Leonard Ellerbe deliver the news, plausible deniability I guess.

Money May knows scheduling a fight is not that simple. Once Pacquiao dispatches Marquez, it will be back to the same song and dance of Mayweather finding a bunch of reasons why the two can't fight.

I know it. You know it, and Freddie Roach knows it. The trainer basically said that Mayweather is all talk, and I have no problem with that.
