Garrett McNamara Video: Watch Surfer Conquer Epic Wave and Make History

There is the old saying, “Kids do not try this at home.” Yeah, watching this insane accomplishment by surfer Garrett McNamara, is why you should not attempt what Garrett did when he rode this epic 90-foot wave. 

Garrett accomplished this amazing feat as he went out to Praia do Norte in Nazare, Portugal to break the record that was held by Mike Parsons in 2008. Parsons set the record in ’08 when he rode an amazing wave like McNamara rode, except Parsons’ was just 77-feet.

Yeah, I can hear you coming from your computer, laptop, iMac, iPad or whatever your reading this story on all saying “77-feet, yawn that’s boring.” 

Yup you’re right, whatever 77-feet, that’s child play that beginners ride on a Saturday in Malibu, California. 

But in all seriousness, McNamara feels nothing but humility for breaking this record saying, to Surfer Today, "I feel so blessed and honored to have been invited to explore this canyon and its special town. The waves here are such a mystery."

So the question has to be asked about McNamara, what can he do next? What’s the next accomplishment for the “extreme surfer?” Would he do a wave that could eclipse the 100-foot wave height? 

Or is there someone out there in the world that sees McNamara’s feat and wants to break the record for himself? 

You would have to believe that, as there has to be someone out there that is just like McNamara sitting at home watching this video and going, “I could do that.”

When that happens we will post the video and celebrate that person’s lust for danger and no fear of the worst case possibility.
