Manny Pacquiao: Why This Is Pac-Man's Last Fight

Gabe ZaldivarNov 10, 2011

Hold your breath. Take a seat. Do whatever you need to prepare for this type of assumption. I am confident that this will be Manny Pacquiao's final fight.

I take no pride in thinking that the third of an epic trilogy will conclude what has been a masterful career, but that is the only thing I see occurring just a few short days from now.

There is just one thing that can prevent this from happening and we all know what that is.

Floyd Mayweather Jr. looms as the only question that Pacquiao needs to answer. However, I have little confidence that the elusive marquee fight will ever happen.

After that, there is nobody left to fight. Anything less would be a letdown of epic proportions. After accomplishing all that he has at the amount of weight classes that he has, the regrets are few.

No other fighter should command Pacquiao's attention as he contemplates his next move. With the icon's attention being pulled by politics and music, he isn't demanded to stay in the world of boxing by any means.

Really, the only thing that can and will keep him boxing is Mayweather and the fight of the century. Anything less is beneath this boxer.

So, we have to ask, will this fight actually happen? Money May told the world that he would fight the "little guy." He even placed a date on it. At least, that is what he would like you to believe.

It was actually Leonard Ellerbe that mentioned the fight, and we all know you can't blink and have a fight of this magnitude. I assume that Mayweather wanted to either draw hype or divert Pacquiao's attention.

I will wager that if Pacquiao wins in stirring fashion on Saturday, Mayweather will become silent once again on fighting the Filipino.

Instead of wasting energy on Money May ducking him, Pacquiao will retire a champion and with his head held high. Which is more than I can say for Floyd Mayweather Jr.
