Week 10 Start Em Sit Em: Michael Turner and Others You Must Start

Andrea HangstNov 9, 2011

Two running backs and a quarterback lead this list of the fantasy football players you must start in Week 10.

Though they have solidified themselves as reliably productive starters on a week to week basis, they have the added benefit of advantageous matchups that will take them from being just another starter to serious studs for your team.

RB Michael Turner, Atlanta Falcons (vs. New Orleans Saints)

Michael Turner is an every-week starter, to be sure. However, against the New Orleans Saints' 24th-ranked rush defense this week, he's primed to have an excellent showing for your team.

Last Sunday, against a weak Indianapolis Colts rush defense, Turner had 19 carries for 71 yards and a score. This week, his numbers should be similar. The Falcons aren't known to abandon the run, even if faced with a high-scoring offense such as the Saints'. Nevertheless, Turner is also valuable in the team's passing game.

The Falcons running back has caught eight passes this season for 105 yards. He's rushed for a total of 157 times for 692 yards and seven scores, averaging nearly 87 yards per game.

Turner will take advantage of a Saints defense that is weak against the run this week. You should take advantage of this excellent matchup and make sure that you start him.

RB DeMarco Murray, Dallas Cowboys (vs. Buffalo Bills)

The matchup will be in DeMarco Murray's favor this week when the rookie Cowboys running back goes up against the Buffalo Bills' 21st-ranked rush defense. Also in his favor is the low likelihood of Felix Jones returning to the Cowboys' starting lineup.

Regardless of Jones' status, it's apparent that Murray has snagged the starting running back position away from him. He has picked up 466 total rushing yards and a touchdown in his last three games. He's clearly the most valuable waiver wire pickup of the year. Murray is paying off serious dividends with practically no risk.

If you own the Cowboys running back, don't hesitate to start him. The Cowboys have proven that they want to run the ball heavily with Murray as the starter. Against the Bills, he should put up well over 100 yards.

QB Ben Roethlisberger, Pittsburgh Steelers (at Cincinnati Bengals)

Generally just a worthwhile fantasy backup, Ben Roethlisberger has become a fantasy starter now that the Steelers are a staunchly pass-heavy team. He's got excellent receivers to support him, which has propelled him to 1,056 yards, six touchdowns and two interceptions in his past three games.

The Cincinnati Bengals do have a tough defense, to be sure. However, they're not going to be any match for Roethlisberger's cadre of speedy, young receivers. The quarterback is due to have another big day.

Roethlisberger's pass attempts have been on the rise, averaging 42 per game in those last three explosive outings. He's comfortable throwing that often for the first time in his career, and there's little doubt that Pittsburgh's offense will be hinging on his arm this Sunday.

Another 300-plus passing day is certainly in order, and he'll doubtlessly throw at least two touchdowns against Cincinnati.
