Pacquiao vs Mayweather: Why Mayweather Will Never Fight Pacquiao

Austin GreenNov 9, 2011

The epic super-fight between Floyd Mayweather and Manny Pacquiao will never happen for one simple reason: Floyd Mayweather doesn't give a damn about what you think.

Boxing fans have been drooling over the potential fight for several years now, and the general consensus is that Mayweather's legacy will not be complete until he fights Pacquiao.

But if Floyd Mayweather cared one iota about what the general population thought, he wouldn't be Floyd Mayweather.

There's a reason this guy is perhaps the most polarizing athlete in history. He does what he wants, when he wants, and to hell with the consequences.

Depending on which side you talk to, negotiations for this fight have fallen apart one or two times over the last couple years.

During that span, Mayweather has insulted Pacquiao at every opportunity.

He and his uncle/trainer Roger Mayweather have accused Pacquiao of taking performance enhancing drugs on several occasions.

Mere hours before Pacquiao's fight with Ricky Hatton in 2009, Mayweather selfishly held a press conference at the site of the fight to announce he was ending his 21-month retirement.

And after his controversial knockout of Victor Ortiz, Mayweather publicly belittled Pacquiao yet again.

"All Pacquiao is doing is fighting my leftovers," Mayweather said. "When they say Pacquiao, they say he's the guy they want to fight Floyd Mayweather. When they say my name, they say he's an all-time great."

Mayweather's camp has put the MGM Grand on hold for May 5, 2012, and his camp is saying it's reserved for his fight against Pacquiao.

In typical Mayweather fashion, his adviser Leonard Ellerbe said, "We're looking to make the biggest fight possible and everyone knows what that fight is: the little fella."

However, I don't think this fight will ever happen.

Mayweather has his perfect 42-0 record and he's not going to risk that just to do what everyone wants him to do.

If he did that, then he wouldn't be Floyd Mayweather.
