Week 10 Waiver Wire Pickups: 3 Week 9 Stars Who Can't Be Trusted

Ryan RudnanskyNov 9, 2011

It's very rare that a player suddenly comes alive after years of mediocrity in the NFL.

That's why when a previously underwhelming player posts big numbers for a couple of weeks, the savvy fantasy owners know not to pick them up because it's only a matter of time before they let your fantasy team down.

There are three such players who had big games in Week 9 and shouldn't be trusted moving forward.

Carson Palmer, QB, Oakland Raiders

Carson Palmer, who is being expected to save the Raiders franchise, will fail on the field and in fantasy football.

Palmer may have thrown for 332 yards and three touchdowns in Week 9, but he also completed under 50 percent of his passes and threw three interceptions. On top of that, he was facing a bad pass defense in the Denver Broncos, who have given up a league-high 17 passing touchdowns this season.

Injured star running back Darren McFadden won't be held out for much longer and when he returns Palmer isn't going to be asked to throw the ball as much.

Palmer also isn't facing a forgiving pass defense against the San Diego Chargers in Week 10, who are giving up just 191.6 passing yards per game.

Laurent Robinson, WR, Dallas Cowboys

Somebody asked me about Laurent Robinson in one of my waiver-wire articles, so I'll go ahead and address him here.

Robinson has been a disappointment ever since getting drafted in 2007. He's a third-round player who has ability but has never been able to get it together.

To put it simply, I don't trust him. He's had two 100-yard games this season, but he's also had four games under 50 yards receiving. Last season, his season high was 61 receiving yards.

In short, I don't like Robinson as a receiver. He'll occasionally have a big game, but he's not consistent enough to be relied on on a weekly basis.

When Miles Austin comes back from injury, you can really forget about Robinson.

Jacoby Ford, WR, Oakland Raiders

Jacoby Ford is another receiver who has gotten way too credit, especially from die-hard Raiders fans.

He's a fourth-round player, but people treat him like he has first or second-round potential.

I just don't see it. Like Robinson, he'll have a big game every once in a while (he had 105 yards and a touchdown in Week 9), but he had 114 receiving yards in five games before his game against a bad Broncos secondary.

Last season, Ford had two 100-yard games. The rest of the season he was awful.
