Manny Pacquiao: Why Pac-Man Needs to Fight Floyd Mayweather Next
Manny Pacquiao will not become the greatest boxer of all time without battling Floyd Mayweather.
The same can be said about “Money,” but we all know Mayweather doesn’t care about that. Floyd is the greatest villain in the sports universe today. He doesn’t care what anyone thinks except himself. In his eyes, he’s the greatest ever and will die with that thought engraved in his money-filled head.
Pacquiao is a different story. Pacquiao needs the public court of opinion to back him. The only way for him to truly obtain and secure the belief and moniker of “Greatest of All Time,” he needs to step into the ring and defeat Mayweather.
The debate has been going on for years—Manny or “Money?” It’s time both men do right by the fans and the sport that has defined their lives. There is nowhere for these men or the sport of boxing to go from here.
Boxing is dying a slow death as UFC gains momentum by the day. The only thing these two men and the sport have is this dream match. Who else is Pacquiao going to fight that can draw the same interest?
Go ahead. I’ll wait.
Yeah, I’m still here. There’s nobody on Earth that presents the test to Pac-Man that Mayweather does. There is nobody else in the sport that can solidify Pacquiao’s greatness next to Floyd.
Pacquiao can step away from the ring to sing, sell cell phones and tablets all he wants, but that won’t cement him as the best ever like a win over Mayweather will. There also isn’t another fight on the potential slate that can give him the same pay day.
Mayweather isn’t just a logical option, he’s the only option, and Pac-Man needs him more than ever after November 12.
