Minnesota Vikings vs. Green Bay Packers: 5 Best Packer Moments in Famed Rivalry

Matt SteinNov 9, 2011

As one of the greatest rivalries in the NFL, the Minnesota Vikings and the Green Bay Packers have had their fair share of great moments over the years.

Today we'll look at the five best moments for Green Bay in this storied rivalry. I hope all you Packers' fans out there truly enjoy reliving these fantastic moments of victory over a team we truly dislike.

5. Corey Bradford's Touchdown Catch

1 of 5

During the third week of the 1999 season, the Green Bay Packers and the Minnesota Vikings were in a tight game at Lambeau Field.

With the Vikings barely holding on to a 20-16 lead late in the game, Corey Bradford, a relatively unknown player at that time, caught a late touchdown pass to give the Packers a 23-20 lead. That score would prove to be the game winning touchdown as the Packers moved to 2-1 on the season.

This game ultimately meant very little that season as Green Bay finished 8-8 and missed the playoffs, but whenever the Packers can win a nail-biter against the Vikings, it is a fantastic moment.

4. Division Clinching Win in 1972

2 of 5

While the 1960s belonged to the Green Bay Packers, the 1970s were a completely different story. The Minnesota Vikings were on a major winning streak against the Packers and were big favorites to beat them again in December of 1972.

On a cold and icy day, Minnesota and Green Bay played an extremely hard fought game. The final score of 23-7 doesn't do justice to how hard each team played.

In the end, the Packers prevailed and avenged an earlier loss in the season to Minnesota. This win would give Green Bay a 9-4 record and ultimately clinch the division title and drop the Vikings out of contention.

3. Packers Finally Beat Brett Favre

3 of 5

When Brett Favre left the Green Bay Packers for the New York Jets, Packers' fans were upset, but not furious. However, when Favre came back to play for the Minnesota Vikings to following year, it was like he had taken a very long and sharp knife to the back of everyone in Wisconsin.

In Week 7 of the 2010 season, Green Bay finally got their revenge on Favre. The Packers beat Favre and the Vikings after a late Favre touchdown pass to Percy Harvin was overturned by reply.

This victory finally allowed Packers' fans to move from Favre to Aaron Rodgers.

2. Favre Break's Record

4 of 5

Whenever a record is broken by a player on your favorite team, it is guaranteed to be one of the greatest moments. When that record gets broken against a rival team, it is all the more sweet.

That is why Brett Favre's 421st touchdown pass was so absolutely incredible. Not only did it cement his position in the record books, it also came against the Minnesota Vikings.

I can't imagine what it must have felt like for Vikings' fans to watch the celebration that ensued after Favre threw that touchdown pass. What makes this moment even greater is the fact that it took place in Minnesota.

1. Antonio Freeman Did What?

5 of 5

This moment is not just the greatest Green Bay Packers moment against the Minnesota Vikings, it is also one of the greatest plays in NFL history.

During an overtime Monday Night Football game in Lambeau Field, Brett Favre threw one of his famous deep passes in the direction of Antonio Freeman. The only thing was that Freeman happened to be on the ground when the ball bounced off his legs and into his hands.

Freeman got up off the ground and ran into the end zone to end the game. This was one of the greatest receptions of all-time and the greatest moment in the storied rivalry between the Packers and the Vikings.
