Pacquiao vs Marquez: Why Pac-Man Must Watch His Mouth

Brandon GalvinNov 9, 2011

Manny Pacquiao better watch his mouth because Juan Manuel Marquez is in prime position to chin check him back to their second bout.

When Pac-Man meets Marquez for the third—and most likely final time—he will be facing a fighter unlike anybody he has ever faced before.

Marquez is stepping his game up to new levels for this fight as he looks to prove to the world that he should have won the second bout. After sporting t-shirts spouting that he won that second bout, he is clearly in Pacquiao’s head.

Pac-Man is looking to silence Marquez and his fans after that dastardly display of "un-sportsmanship." The only problem is he may be too overzealous and aggressive on offense.

Marquez knows how to keep his guard up and protect himself, which is exactly how he eluded Pac-Man’s lethal fists of fury in the previous bouts. Marquez will not get knocked out in this trilogy. That we can take to the bank heading into part three. It is his newfound cerebral nature that will allow him to lull Pacquiao and catch him off guard.

As Marquez takes Pacquaio the distance, Pac-Man will become increasingly frustrated and fatigued from the constant fist tossing. As they approach the final rounds of the bout, Marquez will be able to strike swiftly and land the one and only punch he needs to win the fight of the year.

Pacquiao may be on top of his game, but it won’t matter if he fails to slow the pace of the fight. He needs to catch Marquez off his game and try to lull his opponent into dropping his generally impenetrable guard. If he fails to do so, he may not be able to take it to another decision, for he will be on the ground looking up at the blurry bright lights of doom.
