Urban Meyer Penn State: Coach Calling PSU Game Will Only Fuel Rumors

Penn State is on fire and Joe Paterno may be set ablaze as well. The legendary coach is rumored to be on his way out leaving Urban Meyer to be the leading candidate according to rumors. 

ESPN descends upon Beaver Stadium and Urban Meyer will no doubt be in town to break down a game that was already marquee before the Jerry Sandusky scandal hit. 

You simply can't separate Meyer from rumors that he will one day take over the Nittany Lions from Joe Paterno. Having him near this game and breaking it all down will only serve to exacerbate these rumors. 

There is of course the rumor that swirled from Scout.com back in October. Penn State allegedly contacted Urban Meyer to gauge his interest in taking over of Paterno. 

Meyer seemed keen on the idea but didn't want to oust JoePa. Well, the legendary coach did a damn good job of handling that portion of things himself. 

The New York Times reports the Penn State board of trustees is set to meet to decide on the fate of Paterno. The fact that alums are turning on the legendary coach at a brisk pace should tell you all you need to know about their decision. 

The report issues that Paterno is indeed a dead man walking, but they have not decided on when they will bring down the axe on the once lauded head coach. 

That leaves a program that has known only an heroic figure as their coach to search for another that can fill his shoes. There really is only one name that comes to mind and that is Meyer. 

He has the legacy and family-oriented demeanor that would fit in perfectly in Happy Valley. There will never be another like Joe Paterno. That goes for the actual Paterno who can never go back to the image we once had of him. 

However, Meyer would be a step in the right direction. Now the only question is if he wants the job. It is clear that if he does, the fans and students would welcome him with wide open arms.
