NFL Power Rankings Week 10: Identifying the League's Biggest Posers

John RozumNov 8, 2011

At the moment, the following three teams are still alive for the postseason. And even if all three or however many qualify, don't be surprised if they get bounced early.

It has the feel of a potentially solid year, but their weakness have been exposed more than once.

New York Giants (6-2)

The Giants may be the NFC East leader, but it's not one of the better divisions from top to bottom. And, although New York is 3-0 against the AFC East, it's a more inconsistent division than meets the eye.

Plus, we've seen the worst of the Giants in their losses against Washington and Seattle. With arguably the most difficult schedule remaining, New York must be on its A-game each week otherwise it'll be lucky to finish 9-7.

We'll know more in the coming weeks, but just be aware that the Giants have a glitch that will show up sooner rather than later.

New England Patriots (5-3)

It's all pass defense with the Patriots. They rank No. 1 in passing offense (average just over 325 yards per game), but allow 314 yards per game, which obviously ranks dead last.

So, Tom Brady and company can put up as many points as they want, because it's not going to make any difference. Bill Belichick's defense is still going to allow a ton of yards and just enough points to cost them a win, as evidenced by the past two weeks.

And if you slow down New England's passing game just enough, then you need not worry about its ground game, as its effectiveness has diminished since early on.

The Pats most likely win the AFC East, but it will come as no surprise when they are eliminated early in the postseason since they can't stop anyone defensively.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers (4-4)

The Bucs' started out 3-1 but have gone just 1-3 since Week 4, and they are having trouble playing away from The Sombrero.

Sure, they have a road win over Minnesota, but who doesn't at this point? Arizona, and that's about it. Tampa Bay's youth is being exploited, and it's obvious that playing on the road (even in neutral site games) is the team's Achilles' heel.

With eight games remaining, Tampa must go on the road five times, but their home games won't be cakewalks either (Houston, Carolina and Dallas). So, it will be interesting to see if they can fend off their road woes, but it'll be a surprise if the Bucs are even in the playoff race by season's end.
