NHL Predictions: Every Team's Most Likely Next Candidate To Score 50 Goals
Scoring 50 goals in the NHL is a remarkable feat, and one that is rarely accomplished nowadays.
There were far less 50-goal seasons in the 2000s than there were in the 1990s, and whether you want to blame goalie equipment, various rule changes or something else, there is no question that scoring 50 goals is an amazing accomplishment.
Only one player scored 50 or more goals last season, Anaheim Ducks' forward Corey Perry.
Let's look at one player from every team is most likely to score 50 goals.

Anaheim Ducks: Corey Perry
1 of 30Corey Perry won the Hart Trophy last season as league MVP, and scored 50 goals in 82 games played.
Perry is an amazing offensive player and a gifted goal-scorer, and playing with talented forwards like Ryan Getzlaf and Bobby Ryan will help him score 50 goals again.
Boston Bruins: Tyler Seguin
2 of 30Tyler Seguin was the second overall pick in the 2010 NHL Draft and after an inconsistent rookie season last year he has exploded this season and is the Bruins leader in points.
Seguin is a pure scorer and already has eight goals. He is Boston's only player with any shot at scoring 50 goals in a season.
Buffalo Sabres: Thomas Vanek
3 of 30If Thomas Vanek can stay healthy for the rest of his career, he has a good chance to score 50 goals. He has scored 40-plus goals twice in his career, and leads the Sabres with eight goals this season.
Vanek plays with a talented supporting cast in Buffalo, and is their best offensive player.
Calgary Flames: Jarome Iginla
4 of 30Jarome Iginla is one of the best players in the NHL, and, even in his mid-thirties, he is an elite offensive player.
Iginla scored 50 goals in 2008 and certainly has the ability to do it again this season or in the next few years, especially if he traded to a more talented team.
Carolina Hurricanes: Eric Staal
5 of 30You might think Jeff Skinner is the player most likely to score 50 goals in a season for the Hurricanes, but Eric Staal remains the team's best player and has the chance to score 50 in any season.
Staal has scored 40-plus goals twice and is still capable of being an elite scorer in the NHL.
Chicago Blackhawks: Marian Hossa
6 of 30Jonathan Toews and Patrick Kane are fantastic players but they will not score 50 goals in a season.
Marian Hossa is a pure scorer who has scored 40-plus goals three times in his career, and, if he can stay consistently healthy, he will score 50 or more goals for the Blackhawks soon.
Colorado Avalanche: Matt Duchene
7 of 30Matt Duchene is a fantastic young player who is having an impressive season thus far, leading the Colorado Avalanche with 11 points, and he is tied for the team lead with five goals.
He has a good chance to score 50-plus goals in a season in the recent future.
Columbus Blue Jackets: Rick Nash
8 of 30Rick Nash has scored 40-plus goals twice in his career and is one of the elite power forwards in hockey.
The Blue Jackets have struggled this season, but Nash has 11 points thus far with four goals. He is certainly the Columbus player with the best chance to score 50-plus goals in a season.
Dallas Stars: Loui Eriksson
9 of 30Loui Eriksson is a fantastic young player for the Dallas Stars, and is one of the most underrated players in the NHL.
Eriksson has scored 27-plus goals in three straight seasons in Dallas, and has a chance to sore 50 as he enters his prime.
Detroit Red Wings: Johan Franzen
10 of 30Johan Franzen is tied for the team lead with five goals this season, and has been a pretty good goal scorer during his NHL career.
The Detroit Red Wings are not a team that cares about 50-goal seasons and individual stuff like that, so it's a bit hard to select someone from here, but Franzen is capable.
Edmonton Oilers: Ryan Nugent-Hopkins
11 of 30Ryan Nugent-Hopkins was the No. 1 pick in this past year's NHL Draft by the Edmonton Oilers, and he already has six goals on the season.
Teammate Taylor Hall is a great player too, but Nugent-Hopkins is a better scorer. Either could score 50-plus goals, but Nugent-Hopkins will do it sooner.
Florida Panthers: Stephen Weiss
12 of 30No one on the Florida Panthers is going to score 50 goals anytime soon, and no one has done it for the team since Pavel Bure scored 58 goals in 2000 and 59 in 2001.
Stephen Weiss is the team's best scorer right now, and he seems to be the most likely candidate to score the most goals for the Panthers this season—if he isn't traded to a contender.
Los Angeles Kings: Anze Kopitar
13 of 30Anze Kopitar appears to be having his breakout season this year, and leads the Kings with eight goals and 10 assists, eight more points than the team's second leading scorer.
Kopitar is a highly skilled offensive player who has a great chance to score 50-plus goals this season—and in many seasons to come.
Minnesota Wild: Dany Heatley
14 of 30Dany Heatley scored 50 goals twice when he was with the Ottawa Senators and, as the best pure scorer on the Minnesota Wild, he could score 50 goals for them too.
Heatley has just four goals this season but remains a top scoring talent.
Montreal Canadiens: Tomas Plekanec
15 of 30Tomas Plekanec is a very good scorer and while the Montreal Canadiens don't have a real 50-goal talent on the roster, Plekanec is the best candidate to score 50.
The Canadiens are more a team of several capable scorers, and not one or two elite ones.
Nashville Predators: Patric Hornqvist
16 of 30Patric Hornqvist leads the Nashville Predators with six goals this season and has been very good offensively for the team.
At 24 years old, he is only going to get better, and Hornqvist is certainly the most likely candidate to score 50 goals on a roster that lacks a lot of real offensive talent.
New Jersey Devils: Zach Parise
17 of 30If Zach Parise can stay healthy this season, he has a chance to score 50 goals, and then do it again in the future.
Parise is a fantastic offensive player, and is second on the team with five goals this season. Signing Parise to a new contract is the main objective for the New Jersey Devils this season.
New York Islanders: John Tavares
18 of 30John Tavares leads the New York Islanders this season with eight goals, and no one else on the team has more than four goals.
Tavares is a spectacular offensive player, and certainly a strong candidate to score 50 goals in the next few seasons.
This is a superstar in the making, for sure.
New York Rangers: Marian Gaborik
19 of 30Marian Gaborik is one of the best pure scorers in the NHL, but he has a tough time staying healthy for a full season.
Gaborik has scored 30-plus goals six times in his career, and has seven goals already this season. With a top-line center in Brad Richards on the Rangers, Gaborik could score 50 goals for the first time in his career very soon.
Ottawa Senators: Milan Michalek
20 of 30Milan Michalek is a very good offensive player and leads the Ottawa Senators with nine goals this season.
He has a lot of goal scoring potential, and certainly is the Senators' best candidate to score 50-plus goals in the near future.
Philadelphia Flyers: Claude Giroux
21 of 30Claude Giroux is the Philadelphia Flyers' best offensive player and is a superstar in the making.
He leads the Flyers with nine goals this season, and has been a playmaker as well. Giroux is by far the best candidate on the Flyers to score 50 goals in a season in the near future.
Phoenix Coyotes: Shane Doan
22 of 30There is no one on the Phoenix Coyotes who is going to score 50 goals in a single season anytime soon. Shane Doan is their best player and is a good goal scorer.
He will most likely lead the team in goals this season if he is not traded to a contender by the trade deadline.
Pittsburgh Penguins: James Neal
23 of 30James Neal is just 24 years old and is becoming a fantastic NHL scorer.
He has nine goals already this season, which leads the team, and with teammate Evgeni Malkin not a candidate to reach 50 goals, it could be Neal who does it for the Penguins very soon, maybe even this season.
St. Louis Blues: David Backes
24 of 30The St. Louis Blues don't have an elite offensive player or a really good goal scorer, but David Backes is someone who could come somewhat close to scoring 50 goals in a season, although it is unlikely that he will.
After firing their head coach last week, it's clear that there are bigger issues in St. Louis than who is going to score 50 goals next for us.
San Jose Sharks: Logan Couture
25 of 30Logan Couture is the best young player on the San Jose Sharks and is a budding superstar in the NHL. He is a tremendous goal scorer and his six goals this season ranks second on the team.
In his first full NHL season last year, he scored 32 goals. He will score 50 in his career, and will likely do it sooner rather than later.
Tampa Bay Lightning: Steven Stamkos
26 of 30Steven Stamkos is the easy choice for this list, having scored 51 goals just two years ago.
Stamkos is the best young offensive player in hockey and has an astounding 10 goals already this season.
He will score 50 goals this season, and it won't be the last time he does it either.
Toronto Maple Leafs: Phil Kessel
27 of 30Phil Kessel is the best goal scorer on the Toronto Maple Leafs and is certainly someone who could score 50 goals in a season.
First, he has to reach 40 goals in a season, which he has never done before. Kessel has 10 goals and 11 assists already this season, and is on pace for a career season.
Vancouver Canucks: David Booth
28 of 30David Booth is the Vancouver Canucks player most likely to score 50 goals soon. Henrik and Daniel Sedin, as well as Alexander Burrows are not going to put up 50-goal seasons.
Booth was a good scorer on the Florida Panthers and, now that he is playing with elite playmaking talents, he could certainly hit 50 soon.
Washington Capitals: Alexander Ovechkin
29 of 30Alexander Ovechkin has already scored 50-plus goals four times in his career, and he will eclipse that mark many more times during his career.
Ovechkin's offensive talent is arguably the best in the NHL, and surrounded by a talented team combined with his own talent, there's no question he will score 50-plus goals very soon.
Winnipeg Jets: Evander Kane
30 of 30Evander Kane is a fantastic young player and has the ability to be a franchise player for the Winnipeg Jets.
Kane is tied for the team lead with five goals this season, and at age 20, he will be a top scorer very soon.
