Pacquiao vs. Marquez: Marquez Is Perfect Opponent to Defeat Pacquiao

Eric BallNov 9, 2011

If there was ever a boxer to take down Manny Pacquiao, it’s Juan Manuel Marquez.

He has come closer than any other fighter to upending arguably the greatest fighter of the last decade.

Nobody is more familiar with his strengths and weaknesses, and nobody is better equipped to counter what Pacquiao is throwing.

Pac-Man has struggled to defend against the style of Marquez. He is more of a cautious fighter who doesn’t try to out-slug him, something Pacquiao typically feasts on. Marquez has been able to turn Pacquiao’s aggressiveness against him with quick counter punches that Pac-Man doesn't expect.

Patience is a virtue with Marquez.

Pacquiao’s team was under the strong belief that Marquez had regressed between Round 1 in 2004 and Round 2 in 2008. After one of the best fights of the decade that resulted in a split decision, clearly they were mistaken.

Are they overlooking Marquez yet again?

At the age of 38, clearly he has entered the twilight of his career.

Yet, Marquez could care less about his age. He is determined to prove once and for all he is the better fighter:

"

Now it's time to shed doubt over who the best fighter is, I want to win this fight because I believe I won the first two fights.

We are not the only ones saying that we won those first two fights. A lot of people out there, a lot of fans and a lot of the media, agree. So we will be ready and prepared.

"

Nothing is better for a competitor than having a chip on your shoulder. Marquez has one the size of a boulder in the Colorado Rockies.

Marquez has been waiting for this moment for three years, and you better believe he is once again going to give Pac-Man a serious run for his money.
