WWE Raw Recap: 10 Takeaways from Monday Night in Liverpool

Nathan GieseNov 8, 2011

Hot off another Raw, this time in Liverpool, England, we are left some further understanding on some of the biggest feuds the show has to offer.

However, with those answers came more questions surrounding certain other superstars featured, or not featured for that matter, on the show.

Here's a quick-hitting, comprehensive list of things we as fans can take away from the show.

Liverpool Unanimously Hates John Cena

1 of 11

This photo may contradict my point, but it was the best thing I could find.

John Cena started the show tonight from Liverpool.  While it is come to be expected that Cena would receive vast amounts of boos from the crowd, it was hard to believe the amount of hate for Cena oozing from the England crowd last night.

Cena acknowledged the hatred from the crowd, standing in the ring, looking for the right opening to begin speaking.  Once he found that opening, he got zero reaction from the crowd for anything he said.

Most arenas speak their hatred of Cena loud and clear, but it's hard to find such a universal hatred for this man since he faced CM Punk at Money in the Bank in Chicago.

While I probably shouldn't be surprised at the reaction he received, this one caught me by surprise a little bit.

John Morrison's Losing Streak Is Finally over

2 of 11

Where exactly is John Morrison's career headed?

One minute he's fighting for the WWE Championship, the next he helped R-Truth accomplish the character turn of the year, then he's on a monumental losing streak, reminiscent to that of Sheamus' one year ago.

Last night, Morrison took on the United States Champion, Dolph Ziggler.  The announcement of the match-up alone caught me by surprise.  The result of the match shocked the living daylights out of me.

Morrison picked up the sneaky victory over Ziggler with a roll up pin.

Ziggler has now lost two weeks in a row, cleanly.  His time with the US title is all but up.

I have predicted Zack Ryder to be the man to take the title from Ziggler in order for Dolph to jump to the main event scene. Now, Ziggler has two possible opponents for his title.

Is Morrison leaving or isn't he? Something's gotta give with this match.

Zack Ryder's Extreme Push Continues

3 of 11

Two weeks ago, Zack Ryder was suppose to team up with John Cena to take on Awesome Truth.  This was going to be Ryder's big main event shot.  Only, it was taken away from him due to an attack by Awesome Truth before the match could begin.

Last night, Ryder finally got his shot.  He participated in the match this time and got a tremendous pop from the crowd to boot.

Not only is he main eventing Raw, he's getting all of the fans on his side in the process.  He continues to get backstage shots of himself, his Twitter account and YouTube show are being highlighted by the commentating team and his hometown is now recognized as the LI.

What more can this guy ask for? He's on the roll of his life.  It's only a matter of time until he gets one of the mid-card titles.

Mason Ryan Is Still Incredibly Green

4 of 11

Forget for the second that Mason Ryan is a huge monster, the type of monster Vince McMahon loves.

Now, go back and watch his match with JTG last night on Raw.  Yes, he did face JTG on national television and no, it was not a Superstars re-run.

What did we get to see from Ryan? The fact that he still has a lot of work to do.

Something that continues to baffle me with Mason Ryan is how this guy continues to get airtime when they just failed with another muscly man with little wrestling ability.  (Here's looking at you, Ezekial Jackson)

His move-set is limited to clotheslines and power slams--sound familiar?

He has spoken maybe twice since he debuted in the WWE, which leads me to believe they keep him off of the mic for a reason.

Why does the WWE keep pumping out these mammoth men with zero wrestling skills and expect us to believe they are credible wrestlers?

For the record, I'm not sold on Ryan's chances at mainstream success.

JR Once Again a No Show, Cole Continues to Mock

5 of 11

For the second week in a row, the Michael Cole challenge has gone unanswered by Jim Ross.

And, for the second week in a row, Cole has been taken that opportunity to publicly humiliated JR, this time, citing airport security troubles for his massive load of BBQ sauce Ross apparently takes with him everywhere he goes.

Hopefully next week, Ross with be in attendance at Raw to accept the challenge.  There is no need for Ross to continue to be embarrassed by the rat known as Michael Cole.

CM Punk Launches Another Pipe Bomb

6 of 11

Last week, CM Punk forced Berto into allowing Punk to have his one-on-one rematch for the WWE Championship, something that has evaded him since losing it in August.

Last night, while Del Rio was attacking Kofi Kingston, Punk came out and spouted off yet another gem of a pipe bomb all over Alberto's ego.

Punk went into details about how Del Rio's destiny is completely played out and tired, how whenever Del Rio talks, people fast forward or mute him because of how interesting he is and also how Punk was going to take back the WWE Championship at Survivor Series and make the WWE title interesting again.

This is another prime example of Punk channeling his inner IWC member and speaking the words we've all been saying for months.  Del Rio is boring as a character.  You know it, I know it, Punk knows it and now so does the rest of the WWE Universe.

Punk's ability to talk is so amazing, he would have been the greatest door to door salesman to ever live.  He proved that once again with his promo on Del Rio last night.

Finally, a Diva's Promo Not Reduced to WWE.com

7 of 11

During the unveiling of her Maxim magazine cover, Kelly Kelly was interrupted by Beth Phoenix and Natalya, yet again.

This time, they didn't resort immediately to fighting.  No, this time, they used their words over their strength.

One thing was obviously clear during this encounter: Kelly has never been given the proper chance to prove she can work it on the mic, and Beth and Natalya have reduced all of their words to one simple phrase, "You're going to cry."

Having the two strongest diva's in the business saying you're going to cry was nice at first, mostly because they really did make Kelly cry on an episode of Smackdown.  Now, it's becoming as overused as Christian's "One more match," or Alberto Del Rio's "it is my destiny."

It's making the two best divas one dimensional.  Constantly, the few words we hear out of the Pin-up Strong divas revolve around making others cry and calling them Barbies.

This segment last night proved why the divas need more time on the mic to make themselves better.  Without that time, we are reduced to overused, ineffective phrases that Beth and Natalya are using these days.

Brodus Clay: Too Good for England

8 of 11

For weeks now, Brodus Clay has been advertised through video segments to be debuting on Raw last night.

After yet another video, highlight Clay's illustrious career of dominating random nobodies on Superstars, the question was brought up by David Otunga to John Laryngitis: "Wasn't Brodus Clay suppose to debut tonight?"

John's response: "Look, Brodus is special.  He's far too good for these people in Liverpool."

Of course, I was ad libbing, but that was the gist of it.

Really? Brodus Clay is too good for Liverpool?

This is the same guy who hasn't wrestled an actual wrestler in months and he's too good for Liverpool?  Oh, but JTG is up to par with what you want the Eastern Seaboard to think of the WWE?  That makes total sense.

At this rate, I wouldn't be shocked to see Clay run in on one of Mason Ryan's matches, sparking a big body feud for the ages---hint the sarcasm.

How Does David Otunga Sleep at Night?

9 of 11

Once again, in the middle of the night, we saw David Otunga sipping from her thermos.

Am I the only one is wondering if it's regular or decaf?  I

If it's regular, how does the man sleep at night?

If it's decaf, is the man not worried about his daily caffeine intake?

Is that even coffee at all?

Oh, Uncle Phil would be very upset with young Carlton if he saw him now.

Awesome Truth Are a Legitimate Tag Team

10 of 11

If there was ever any doubt about if Miz and R-Truth would be able to form into a legitimate tag team, last night showed that they most definitely can.

Not only do their egos mesh together so well, they already have a joint entrance which highlights both of their songs, they have an awesome tag team finishing move which they dubbed Little Jimmies Finale, and work so well as a unit.

It's a wonder why these two haven't joined forces before now.

If the Miz doesn't jump into the WWE Championship picture again come WrestleMania time, expect these two to be holding the Tag Team titles a few times until then.

That's All for Now

11 of 11

There you have it, ten of the biggest takeaways from last night's show from England.

Remember that next week, The Rock will be returning to Raw for a 3-hour spectacular.

Until then, here's the quote of the night for you.

John Laryngitis, trying to stop Alberto Del Rio and CM Punk during their backstage altercation.

"You two, stop it right now.  Don't make me take my jacket off."  Powerful words.
