Jerry Sandusky: Was the Title of His Autobiography a Sick Joke?

Mike MoraitisNov 7, 2011

Knowing what we now know about former Penn State coach Jerry Sandusky, it's incredible he was able to get away with it for as long as he did. All the signs were there from people around him, but was it a coincidence that his book was entitled, "Touched: The Jerry Sandusky Story?"

The book was released in 2001, describing Sandusky as a man who loved to help children less fortunate through his charity Second Mile, which he started in 1977.

We have now found out that the charity he ran, and the basis for his book, was his sick outlet for meeting young boys. As a result of his vile, inhuman behavior, Sandusky faces 40 counts of sexually abusing minors.

Hindsight is always 20/20 in these instances, but there was more than enough evidence for those close to Sandusky to realize what he was up to.

To have suspicions of this lewd behavior in the late 1990's, do nothing about it and then allow the dog to run an overnight football camp on Penn State grounds until 2010 is unthinkable.

One can only wonder if Sandusky's book title, and the entire autobiography itself, was just a sick joke by the former Penn State assistant. Was Sandusky dangling his despicable behavior right in front of our faces?

The coincidence between Sandusky's behavior and the title of the book of his life's work are just too obvious to ignore. There may have been a disturbing rhyme and reason for him titling his book what he did.

Heads have got to roll in the Penn State program, and they need to clean house entirely to rid themselves of what has become the most disgraceful event in Penn State history. Sadly for Joe Paterno, this single event will most likely end his incredible tenure with the Nittany Lions.

We will know more in the coming days of just how deep the knowledge of Sandusky's behavior reaches. One thing's for sure: there were people who had at least a suspicion of what was going on, but nobody ever did anything to find out, and more importantly, stop it.
