BCS Rankings: Why Florida State Will Be Ranked by Season's End

Kyle SymesNov 7, 2011

The Florida State Seminoles have had  a revival the past few weeks.

After suffering through a three game losing skid, the 'Noles have rebounded with four straight wins.

The winning streak has seen an explosion of offensive firepower along with dominating defense. Looking ahead, Seminoles’ fans should feel optimistic about FSU being ranked in the BCS by the end of the season.

4. Two High Profile Games Remain

1 of 4

This past Thursday saw Florida State steamroll over Boston College on national television.

FSU’s next game comes against the hated Hurricanes from Miami which is also slated to appear on the ABC network.

A season finale game against rival Florida is also likely to be broadcast on a major network. FSU will likely still have their winning streak intact and the Florida Gators are a popular commodity on CBS.

Voters love the chance to watch big name teams perform on big name networks and the Seminoles have multiple chances to impress voters.

3. Suffocating Defense

2 of 4

In their three-game losing streak, the ‘Noles defense gave up 30 points in two of the three games.

In the past four games the Seminoles have given up a total of 39 points.

Florida State’s defense has stepped up to the plate in a big way and shut down opposing offenses. They shut out North Carolina State and made Boston College play musical chairs with their QBs.

Jacory Harris is an athletic QB that could give the ‘Noles a major headache but if they can get past him they only need worry about John Brantley in the season finale.

2. EJ Manuel

3 of 4

EJ Manuel has finally started to become the QB many FSU fans believed he could be when he came out of high school.

Manuel was one of the top QBs in his class and was thought to be a dangerous dual threat breed of QB.

He doesn’t have blinding speed but he can run the ball as well as anyone and his passing attack has improved dramatically the past few weeks.

FSU isn’t going to be a power running team anytime soon so look for Manuel to keep putting up the big numbers.

1. Ranked Teams Will Likely Lose

4 of 4

Looking at the back end of the BCS rankings, FSU fans should be hopeful that many of these teams could lose some of their remaining games which would open the door for the ‘Noles to slide into their place.

Nebraska at No. 19 has proven to be as inconsistent as they come. No. 25 Baylor still has to play No. 6 Oklahoma and No. 16 Texas.

No. 21 Georgia Tech and No. 24 Michigan still have big rivalry games that could swing any way.

And while both Southern Mississippi and Cincinnati find themselves ranked this week, their lack of a tough schedule is likely to hurt them in the computer rankings.
