Pacquiao vs. Marquez: Why Constant Mayweather Talk Will Be Costly Distraction

No matter what Manny Pacquiao does, fighting Floyd Mayweather is going to hang over his head until the two actually step in the ring.

There is simply no avoiding it.

They are the two greatest fighters in the world right now and the simple fact that they have not stepped into the ring by this juncture is just ridiculous.

Pacquiao is better than Juan Manuel Marquez and has already proved it. Obviously, Marquez feels otherwise, but that’s just a sore loser running his mouth. He will remember firsthand why Pac-Man is better on Nov. 12 when he gets knocked out.

The only man that people possibly believe is better than Pacquiao right now is Mayweather.

Money Mayweather is the only boxer on the planet right now that fans actually believe has a shot against Pacquiao.

So instead of having to deal with training to beat Marquez and talking about the fight against Marquez and all of the normal stuff that normally precedes a hyped boxing match, Pacquiao and his camp have to answer questions about Mayweather.

Bob Arum, Pac-Man’s promoter, is already trying to control the talk about a possible May 5 matchup between the two.

'They are playing games,' Arum told SI.com. 'You don’t negotiate this way. This is Floyd trying to move Manny out of the spotlight. This is no way to negotiate a fight. The MGM on May 5th? Who the hell is Floyd to say that? I know they are not serious. We put Floyd in a corner when we made it crystal clear that the issue of drug testing is over. So he comes out and makes this statement? Nobody even knows if he is going to be around in May.'

Look at how angry Arum seems about this. He is upset that the potential fight between Mayweather and Pacquiao is overshadowing their upcoming bout.

He shouldn’t be. He should be worried about making that May fight at the MGM happen. Arum would certainly pocket a few dollars if he made it come to fruition.

Unfortunately, it seems that he is too interested in getting rematches and lesser opponents lined up for his main guy.

Let’s hope that things change between now and May so we can finally put the talks to rest and see a fight.
