NFL Power Rankings: 3 Teams That Will Slide After Big Losses

Ryan RudnanskyNov 7, 2011

The Pittsburgh Steelers were coming off a monumental victory against the New England Patriots as they got set to face the Baltimore Ravens in Week 9.

The Ravens were coming off a 12-7 loss to the Jacksonville Jaguars and a narrow victory against the Arizona Cardinals.

Still, you got the feeling that one of the Steelers' biggest rivals, given their 35-7 win in Week 1 and their history, would show up on Sunday night at Heinz Field.

And show up they did.

The Steelers were one of three teams that suffered tough losses in Week 9 that will ultimately drop them in the power rankings.

3. Pittsburgh Steelers (6-3)

After some rough beginnings, the Steelers were looking like a contender for the AFC title once again in recent weeks, winners of their last four games.

But the Ravens once again brought a formidable defense and quarterback Joe Flacco got back on track, tossing for 314 yards and a touchdown.

I've been saying it for weeks, but keep an eye on Ravens rookie receiver Torrey Smith. He caught five passes for 71 yards and the game-winning touchdown on Sunday.

As for the Steelers, this isn't the end of the world. They can take solace in the fact that second-year pro racked up 109 receiving yards on Sunday.

Their next test is against the Cincinnati Bengals.

2. New England Patriots (5-3)

What has happened to Tom Brady and the Patriots?

Widely considered the second-best team in the NFL after defeating the Dallas Cowboys in Week 6, they came off their Week 7 bye and have now lost to the Steelers and New York Giants in consecutive weeks.

The loss against the Steelers was ultimately because of the Patriots defense, but against the Giants, the Patriots uncharacteristically committed four turnovers, including two interceptions by Brady.

The Patriots are still one of the most formidable teams in the NFL, but they simply aren't playing up to their potential right now.

They have a chance to rebound against their bitter rivals, the New York Jets, in Week 10.

1. Kansas City Chiefs (4-4)

The Chiefs weren't ranked that high as it was, but they had won their last four games after losing their first three and had a chance to distance themselves from the San Diego Chargers in Week 9.

Instead, they were embarrassed by the Miami Dolphins, 31-3, looking like the hopeless team they appeared to be in the first three games.

Keep in mind, the Dolphins were 0-7 headed into the contest and the Chiefs allowed the underwhelming Matt Moore to go 17-of-23 for 244 yards and three touchdowns.

A deplorable performance all around.
