10 NFL Players That Would Be Better Suited for Other Sports

Jared FeldmanNov 7, 2011

Football players love what they do, but they have other interests and hobbies.

Many NFL players played other sports in high school and college and are talented enough to do on a professional level.

For example, Jackie Robinson played baseball, basketball and football, as well as ran track while in high school. He probably could have played one of those other sports professionally.

Today's athletes are one in the same. Chad Ochocinco already tried to play soccer professionally during the lockout.

While many NFL players are very good at their jobs, they could be even better if they tried another pro sport.

Aaron Rodgers: Wrestling

1 of 10

Aaron Rodgers is probably the best quarterback in the NFL these days, but it's clear his true passion lies elsewhere.

Whenever Rodgers scores, he does his famous dance where he flaunts his "belt." Pro wrestlers win the coveted championship belt, and Rogers, given his passion and talent, could be a very good pro wrestler.

His name could be "The Under Center Taker."

OK, it needs work.

Jared Allen: Hockey

2 of 10

Jared Allen is great on defense and is tremendous at getting to the quarterback.

Imagine him as an enforcer in the NHL. On skates, Allen is even more imposing, and many forwards would think twice before venturing into his defensive zone while he is on the ice.

Sebastian Janikowski: Rugby

3 of 10

Sebastian Janikowski is a great kicker, but it's obvious that he wishes he could be doing more every time he is on the field.

Sometimes, he kicks to try to dare returners to come near him just so he can tackle them hard.

His father was a soccer player, but Janikowski would be best suited for rugby, which combines his two passions: kicking and hitting.

Tom Brady: Golf

4 of 10

Tom Brady is a great quarterback, but he also needs a backup profession.

He is very skilled with the golf club, as is obvious in an episode of Entourage where he attended a charity golf tournament.

Ray Lewis: Bowling

5 of 10

OK, this one is kind of random.

Everyone knows Ray Lewis has an attitude. Imagine him facing a 7-10 split with the game on the line. I'm sure that Lewis would have a unique way to knock those pins down, if not with the bowling ball, then perhaps with his "I'm going to sack you" death stare.

Chad Ochocinco: Football (European)

6 of 10

Ocho's time in the NFL seems to be nearing a close.

He's already had a less than stellar try with the Sporting Kansas City, but another go isn't outside of the realm of possibilities.

Ocho has a good leg and kicked a few extra points in his career. Adapting those foot skills, with his speed and route abilities, could give him a few goal-scoring opportunities while playing in the MLS.

Calvin Johnson: Beach Volleyball

7 of 10

Calvin Johnson is a tremendous leaper.

While it helps him catch passes, he could be an even better beach volleyballer.

He can make diving digs and great overs, and could be a great spiker as well. His greatest asset would be his blocking abilities leaping at the net to challenge would-be spikes.

Too bad there isn't a beach volleyball team in Detroit.

Michael Vick: Basketball

8 of 10

Michael Vick is extremely agile and is a great leaper.

His abilities to avoid sacks and throw long passes could easily be adapted to pump fakes, crossovers and jump shots.

As a point guard, it's obvious he'd be a team-oriented player. The only caveat would be that he might dive on the floor a bit too often. If he can gain control of his athletic talents, a long career in the NBA could be in front of him.

If, of course, there is an NBA anymore.

Jake Locker: Baseball

9 of 10

This is one of the more realistic propositions.

Jake Locker was drafted by the Los Angeles Angels and declined a contract with the NFL on the horizon. Locker might not touch the gridiron anytime soon, but could be manning third base before long if he switched sports.

Troy Polamalu: Tennis

10 of 10

This one is purely for looks.

Polamalu is clearly an NFL icon, but he and his lucious locks could be even bigger world wide. Imagine, clay courts at Roland Garros, French Open title on the line.

It's Nadal vs Polamalu in a battle of talent, but also hair. The Spaniard versus the former Trojan.

Imagine how big of an audience it could draw.
