Manny Pacquiao: Floyd Mayweather's Yapping Should Not Concern Pac-Man
The last person in the world boxing champion Manny Pacquiao should be worrying about is Floyd Mayweather, especially with a bout with Juan Manuel Marquez coming up.
Of course, Mayweather has zero ability to just remain quiet and let this fight take place, and now instead of focusing on the bout most, if not all, boxing outlets are talking about the fight that will probably never happen.
I'm not sure if Mayweather can't handle the attention being on him or if he's just trying to get inside of Pacquio's head and distract him before his fight.
Either way, Mayweather has continued to run his mouth even when he's not a story. Here's his latest rant as reported by Dan Rafael of ESPN:
"Floyd Mayweather Jr. does not plan on taking another 16-month vacation from the boxing ring, like he did after easily outpointing Shane Mosley in May 2010.
Instead, Mayweather, who knocked out Victor Ortiz on Sept. 17, will make a relatively hasty return: May 5 at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, adviser Leonard Ellerbe told ESPN.com on Wednesday night.
Mayweather's opponent has not been determined but Ellerbe said, "We're looking to make the biggest fight possible and everyone knows what that fight is, the little fella."
Ellerbe was, of course, referring to Manny Pacquiao. The welterweight champions and the top two pound-for-pound fighters in the world have been on a collision course for years. However, negotiations have fallen apart over drug testing protocol.
Pacquiao is set to fight Juan Manuel Marquez for the third time Nov. 12 at the MGM Grand and is a heavy favorite.
"Floyd made it very clear that he wants to give the fans the biggest fights that are out there. He wants to stay active," Ellerbe said. "We're going to do everything in our power to make the biggest fight out there for the fans and we all know what the fight is."
"
Apparently, Mayweather is ready to put his money where his mouth is and finally fight Pacquiao, but that's not something Manny needs to worry about right now.
First off, Mayweather is a notorious trash talker. Even if he wants the fight to happen, I highly doubt that it ever would.
There is no question in my mind that Mayweather is afraid of that matchup, knowing what it would do to his perfect record.
Second, Pacquiao cannot let Mayweather's games get to him before his bout with Marquez.
Mayweather is obviously trying to steal some of the limelight away from him, and I wouldn't be surprised if he's trying to get under his skin and distract him.
Mayweather is known for talking a lot of talk, and this is the worst possible time for Pacquiao to be listening to it.
If I were in Pacquiao's camp, I would advise him to let it go in one ear and out the other.
If Mayweather wants to fight, he will get his chance, but now is not the time to worry about his constant yapping.
