Jim Irsay Needs to Fire Jim Caldwell If He Wants to Keep Colts Fans in Stadium

Well, it was another Sunday in the NFL in 2011 today, which means that it was another opportunity for the Indianapolis Colts to establish themselves as the absolute worst the National Football League has to offer.

The Colts once again took full advantage of that opportunity, getting shellacked 31-7 at home by the Atlanta Falcons to fall to 0-9.

It's an ugly 0-9 too, and whether you'd like to blame the Peyton Manning injury or say that the Colts are tanking in an "effort" to grab Stanford quarterback Andrew Luck and move past that injury the simple fact remains that the Colts look absolutely horrendous in every facet of the game and certainly appear to have decided to get the offseason rolling really early.

The nightmare that has been the 2011 season in Indianapolis has to be especially distressing to Colts fans, who have become accustomed to fair amount of success. While at some point it's best for their own mental health to just stop dwelling on one of the worst performances by an NFL team over the course of a season, well, ever the fine folks who plunk down their hard earned money for tickets to watch this mess are going to want someone to be held accountable for it.

Ladies and gentlemen, may I present head coach Jim Caldwell.

I use the term "head coach" fairly loosely here, because it certainly appears that the more time Caldwell spends as one the more he demonstrates that he was never qualified to be one in the first place. How he got the job is a story for another day (and one I'd love to have explained to me in a manner that doesn't give me a headache), but it's become plainly evident that it's a job he's miserable at, and nothing shows that more plainly than the fact that "his" team has flat-out quit on him.

The fans in Indianapolis deserve better, and if Jim Irsay is at all interested in doing right by them then Caldwell has to go.
