Texas Tech vs. Texas: Report Card Grades for the Longhorns' Win vs. the Raiders

T.J. McaloonNov 5, 2011

For all of the questions surrounding this Texas Longhorns team after two horrible showings against Oklahoma and Oklahoma State, they were put to bed after tonight's 52-20 blow out victory against in-state rival, the Texas Tech Red Raiders.

The game was competitive after the first quarter, but quickly fell into blowout territory at the end of the first half with the Longhorns up 31-6.

From there after, Texas Tech never brought it back within a 25-point margin, as the Longhorns had a complete performance from every aspect of their team.

But, the question is, what would you grade Texas' performance?

Click through and see if you agree or disagree with the grades.

Offense Grade: A+

1 of 5

The Texas offense dominated in every aspect of this game. Okay, if you really want to nit-pick this game you can say that the Texas passing game only had 156 yards passing.

But, the offense racked up over 439 yards rushing and on the day had 595 yards total.

In fact they scored on every drive they had today. The only time they didn't score on a drive was when they took a knee to end the game.

Defense: B

2 of 5

It's unfair to say that this defense was the weak link of the Longhorns' win today, but they did give up 381 passing yards to the Red Raiders.

Yes, once the second half came around they pretty much played prevent defense, which allowed the Red Raiders to find open receivers.

But the Longhorns defense did not force any turnovers and allowed Texas Tech to convert 12 of 19 3rd downs.

It was a good performance, but could have been better.

Special Teams Grade: A

3 of 5

Perfect on extra points, perfect on field goals and their returns averaged between 26 and 11 yards on three kickoff returns is a pretty good day.

Can't really ask for more from the special teams.

Coaching Grade: A

4 of 5

Three weeks ago Texas Tech upset then No. 3 Oklahoma in Norman, OK. That means that this Texas Tech team is not some pushover like the Kansas Jayhawks.

Mack Brown and the Texas Longhorns coaching staff put together a great game plan today, executing it to near perfection.

The offense was dominant, the defense was really good and the special teams did not mess anything up.

It was overall a great performance today.

Overall Grade: A

5 of 5

This was the perfect game for the Texas Longhorns. They ran all over the Red Raiders, controlled the ball and played a perfect game that let the Longhorn faithful know the program is back on track.

They still have to beat Kansas State and Texas A&M for the Longhorn faithful to be all the way back on the bandwagon.

Today's game was a perfect start to the final month of the season.
