Manny Pacquiao: Why Floyd Mayweather Won't Be Pac-Man's First Post-Marquez Fight

Nicholas GossNov 5, 2011

After Manny Pacquiao fights Juan Manuel Marquez this month, his next fight will not be a long-awaited fight with undefeated boxer Floyd Mayweather.

If Pacquiao were to be knocked out by Marquez, then his chances of landing a fight with Mayweather could be even slimmer, but that's an argument for another day.

A long-awaited bought between Mayweather and Pacman would be a massively historic event, but while we wait for that fight, Pacman will have to find another opponent in the meantime after Marquez.

Mayweather seems to find an excuse every time the hype builds around a possible bout with Pacquiao, and I'm sure he wouldn't mind keeping his undefeated record intact.

Pacquiao is a worthy opponent and could definitely knock out Mayweather, which would hurt his legacy.

Pacquiao said on Jimmy Kimmel Live on Thursday night that he would fight Mayweather in a winner-take-all bout.

Even though it's unlikely either fighter would take part in a fight under those conditions, it was a positive step in ensuring these two great boxers fight.

While Pacman awaits a massive bout with Mayweather, he will fight someone else. A fight before Mayweather would give Pacman another wave of momentum to build on in preparation.

It could be almost a year until a possible Mayweather-Pacquiao fight could happen, and Pacman will certainly fight before that.

While everyone wants these two to fight as soon as possible, it would be unwise for Pacman not to challenge himself before hand.
