2011 Breeders' Cup Post Time: Brigantin with Upset Potential in Marathon
The first day of racing is in the books at the 2011 Breeders' Cup.
There were plenty of surprises over the races that took place on Friday, and there are many more potential upsets when action continues on Saturday.
One of those potential upsets could come on the first event of the day on Saturday.
Post time for the 1 3/4 mile Marathon race is scheduled for 1:20 p.m. Saturday afternoon.
The early favorite for the event is A.U. Miner, who finished third in last year's running of the race.
A.U. Miner hasn't had a prolific year. Only racing three times, he has finished first once and fifth twice.
The upset that many are predicting is Birdrun. Birdrun is running with jockey John Velazquez, who rode Eldaafer to victory in the race last year.
One of the lesser known horses with upset potential to take a look at could be Brigantin.
Brigantin is relatively unknown in his first year of racing over in Europe. He is one of three European shippers that will compete in this event.
He has one win over six events but has placed four times.
Brigantin is a horse built for longer races. This race will actually be the shortest distance that he has faced in the duration of his career.
Saturday's races could kick off to an exciting start, and Brigantin could be the name that many are mentioning after it concludes.
