2011 Breeders' Cup Predictions: Goldikova Will Make History with 4th Win
The Classic may be the most anticipated and exciting race in the 2011 Breeders' Cup, but it's the Turf Mile where history will be made.
Goldikova is entering the final race of her career, and she does it with the ability to make history.
Goldikova is the winner of the 2008, 2009 and 2010 Breeders' Cup Mile races.
Craig Fravel, president and CEO of Breeders' Cup Ltd. commented about what the filly has been able to do at the event in the past.
"Goldikova going for her fourth straight Mile is like Babe Ruth knocking the 714 home runs out of the park. She's already made it a remarkable accomplishment with three in a row. If she can do four, it would be that much more."
Goldikova has not gotten off to as good of a start to the 2011 year. However, as much could be expected from an aged horse heading into retirement.
Despite this, she is still one of the favorites heading into the race.
Goldikova will face many of the same opponents she has seen in the past.
Grade I winner Get Stormy and Sidney's Candy will be participating in the race. Gio Ponti, who finished second in last year's Mile and Courageous Cat, the 2009 Mile runner-up will also be in the race.
Gio Ponti and Courageous Cat are the two other horses in the race that are expected to give Goldikova a run.
If Goldikova wins, we will be watching history in the making.
