2011 Breeders' Cup Post Time: When You Can Watch Must-See Classic
The 2011 Breeders' Cup is underway. There will be plenty of action all weekend, but nothing will quite top the showdown that we will see on Saturday evening in the final event of the Breeders' Cup, the Classic.
Post Time: 7 p.m. EDT on Saturday, Nov. 5
Where you can watch: ESPN
Horses to look out for:
Jerry Bossert of the New York Daily News said that up to five racehorses can win the Horse of the Year Honors with this race.
Bossert identified Uncle Mo and filly Havre de Grace as the favorites who will deservedly get the attention. But he also identified Flat Out, Stay Thirsty and Game On Dude as horses that could win the honor by winning that race.
If you really stop and think about it, that is an awful lot of elite talent to be on the track at once. With as many as five horses that could go down as 2011's best horse with a win, there is almost no way that we won't get an exciting race that comes down to the end.
Favorites (according to Sportsbook):
Uncle Mo is a 2/1 favorite with just over 24 hours to go until post time. But it's not a far drop to get to the next level.
| Havre de Grace | 3/1 |
| So You Think | 5/1 |
| Flat Out | 6/1 |
| Game on Dude | 10/1 |
| To Honor and Serve | 12/1 |
| Stay Thirsty | 12/1 |
| Ruler on Ice | 15/1 |
| Drosselmeyer | 15/1 |
After that, there is a noticeable drop as Ice Box, Rattlesnake Bridge and Headache round out the field at 30/1.
But there is a pretty steady stream between the favorite and the two horses that are even as the eighth favorites. That is the definition of a wide open field. Honestly, a 15/1 horse winning would be a shock, but it wouldn't send shock waves through the sport or anything.
Prediction: Uncle Mo to win, Flat Out to Place, and Havre de Grace to show.
When he's been healthy, Uncle Mo has been the best horse of 2011. He's healthy now, and I like his chances to close out a wild 2011 on a good note.
