NFL Week 9 Picks: Favorites Who Will Cover the Spread

Michael MillNov 4, 2011

It's always difficult to predict games in the NFL. Every weekend there are upsets that nobody sees coming.

Add in the idea of covering the spread and it becomes even more difficult to figure out who is going to come out on top.

That said, there are always some games that you would be pretty safe betting the house on.

Here are three of those teams that will have no problem covering the spread this weekend.

Kansas City Chiefs (-4)

After an 0-3 start to the season, the Chiefs have now won four straight games, including an overtime thriller last weekend against the San Diego Chargers.

The team has seemed to figure something out.

Jackie Battle has emerged as a solid running back for the team. Steve Breaston has turned it on, and now the passing game is starting to light it up.

The most impressive showing in recent weeks has been by the defense. They have completely turned it around after a horrific start to the year.

The Chiefs are just four point favorites over the winless Miami Dolphins. This is a Dolphins team that couldn't even hold onto a fourth quarter lead over the Denver Broncos.

San Francisco 49ers (-3.5)

The San Francisco 49ers have been the surprise team this year.

Rookie head coach Jim Harbaugh has the team at a 6-1 record, the second best in the NFC. They don't look like they'll be slowing down for anyone.

They surely won't be slowing down for the Washington Redskins.

Washington has stumbled recently, and really has no offensive identity. They are going to need to find one fast if they are going to put up a fight against the 49ers stout defense.

They won't.

Atlanta Falcons (-7)

I'm not a big believer in the Atlanta Falcons right now. However, they were impressive in their most recent game against Detroit.

As long as the Falcons feed the ball to Michael Turner, they are a dangerous football team. They seem to struggle when they rely on the pass.

This weekend, it doesn't really matter what they do. It's going to be difficult to lose this one.

After the Colts were crushed 62-7 on Sunday Night Football by the New Orleans Saints, I would take any spread on them.

This Colts team is bad. Atlanta will win this one by more than a touchdown.
