LSU vs. Alabama 2011: Why Neither Team Will Win BCS Championship

Gabe ZaldivarNov 4, 2011

As we all check out for the week, we are promised one hell of a game in what really should be the BCS title game. Let's anger a nation by considering the very real possibility that neither team will feature in the actual BCS Championship Game in January.

First off, let me establish a couple of things. First off, there will never be another game this year, including the BCS title game, that will have as much hype. The only thing that will supersede this kind of hoopla is if we are blessed to see these teams once again in a couple months.

We have Lou Holtz doing a hype video for the two teams as early as a couple days ago. The Doctor is in and he wants to whip these two teams into shape.

There is also the LSU trailer video that has been making the rounds until kickoff. The Tigers apparently understand this is the biggest game they will play not named a title game.

The second thing I want to get off my chest, I believe these are the championship teams. It really is LSU, Alabama and everyone else.

In a perfect world, this is what the title game would be when we put on our sweaters to welcome the dead of winter. This is the game we should be talking up in January to answer the question of who the best team in the nation is.

The sad part is I just don't see both teams making it back to the title fight. After this weekend, one team will be sent spiraling down the rankings and may suffer setbacks against lesser opponents in lesser games.

After Saturday, Oklahoma State and Stanford will take the positions right behind the big victor. Either LSU or Alabama will be playing catchup, but it will be a sprint I fear they just can't win.

That leaves my faith in either Oklahoma State, a surging Oklahoma or Stanford to take home the ultimate prize.

If there is ever an offense that can get over on one of these two SEC giants, it would be Stanford or Oklahoma State. Two defenses that have been taken to task so often will be exhausted by judgment night.

While Andrew Luck has not seen defenses such as these, the defenses have not seen a QB like Luck. The shock of Luck picking apart a tired crew is beyond plausible.

I also love the chances for Brandon Weeden and some great receivers putting up enough to shock the world. While I crave to see a rematch of LSU and Alabama in January, I see a reality where that doesn't happen.

I fear that the reality may be that neither one will take home the ultimate prize and that is a shock considering what we know now.
