San Francisco 49ers: Aloha! 5 Potential Pro Bowlers

Phil GNov 4, 2011

The San Francisco 49ers have dominated the NFC West so far—if this continues, expect several Pro Bowl bids later this season.

The smash-mouth principle has now become synonymous with the 49ers after they failed to adopt this style last season under former head coach Mike Singletary.

San Francisco is ranked first in scoring defense and 10th in yards allowed. Despite the struggles of the offensive line in the early half of the 2011-2012 season, the 49ers have a top 10 rushing attack led by longtime Niner Frank Gore.

These ingredients are essential for a smash-mouth football team and have served the San Francisco 49ers well, leading to a 6-1 record.

With team success, individual accolades will soon follow. Anticipate these 5 Niners in Hawaii.

Frank Gore

1 of 5

Frank Gore is currently ranked fifth in the NFL in rushing yards. His play and leadership this season have truly revitalized the 49ers.

The seven-year veteran is a surefire selection to represent the NFC in the 2011-2012 Pro Bowl in Hawaii.

Justin Smith

2 of 5

Justin Smith is one of the more underrated superstars in the NFL. His play is a major reason why the San Francisco 49ers defensive line is revered among both fans and analysts.

I expect Justin Smith to be named a starter for the 2011-2012 Pro Bowl in Hawaii.

Patrick Willis

3 of 5

Patrick Willis has played like a superstar since his arrival in San Francisco. As the apparent heir to the great Ray Lewis, Willis has far exceeded expectations. He is a complete linebacker with the ability to stop the run, cover and rush at a high level.

Patrick Willis will represent the NFC in 2011-2012 Pro Bowl. Will teammate NaVorro Bowman join him?

NaVorro Bowman

4 of 5

NaVorro Bowman may not make the cut for the 2011-2012 Pro Bowl, but his play this year has warranted consideration. He is ranked second in the league in tackles despite playing next to tackle machine Patrick Willis.

Former 49ers weak-side linebacker Takeo Spikes did not play with nearly the athleticism that NaVorro Bowman brings to the position. Bowman might just miss the cut, but his play this year has certainly opened eyes.

Carlos Rogers

5 of 5

Carlos Rogers has brought stability to the defensive back position. He leads the team with three interceptions on the season despite having a bad reputation as a playmaker.

The San Francisco 49ers secondary is still suspect at times but Carlos Rogers is not to blame. Rogers is one of the more underrated coverage corners in the NFL.

I expect the 49ers to re-sign Carlos Rogers this offseason (I hope at a fair price). If Rogers continues to make plays, expect to see the former Auburn Tiger dancing in Hawaii.
