7 Reasons Why Carlos Condit vs. Jake Ellenberger II Needs to Happen

Jeffrey McKinneyNov 3, 2011

UFC welterweight contender Carlos Condit has about the same luck as Rashad Evans and Anthony Pettis when it comes to title shots.

Like Pettis and Evans, Condit had a promised title shot taken away from him.

Although Josh Koscheck is always willing to step in and fight Condit instead, the man Condit should be thinking about is Jake Ellenberger.

Ellenberger and Condit have been on big winning streaks since they last fought. With both men available, a fight between the two could determine the next number one contender.

Here are the reasons why this needs to happen.

Their First Fight Could Have Gone Either Way

1 of 7

The first time Condit and Ellenberger met, they fought to a split decision.

Ellenberger dropped Condit in the first round but Condit fought his way back into the fight.

Although it could have gone either way, two judges saw the bout in Condit's favor.

Ellenberger would love to have revenge for the first fight.

Both Men Haven't Lost Since They Last Fought Each Other

Since their last fight, Condit and Ellenberger have gone on long winning streaks.

Condits win over Ellenberger capped off a four fight winning streak that includes knockout victories over Dan Hardy and Dong Hyun Kim.

Ellenberger, on the other hand, has won five straight fights, including a knockout victory over Jake Shields.

Georges St-Pierre Is Taking on Nick Diaz

The St-Pierre vs. Diaz fight affects Carlos Condit more than anybody.

When Condit was pushed out of the championship bout with St-Pierre, it left him with two options.

One would be to wait for his title shot.

The second is take on a fight. Although there are other fighters open, Ellenberger could pose the biggest threat as well as the best challenge for Condit.

Ellenberger Needs Another Fight Set Up

4 of 7

There was a brief possibility that Ellenberger was going to meet Diego Sanchez at UFC 141.

However, because of Sanchez's hand injury, he will be out until next year.

Ellenberger, like Condit, needs another matchup. Both are riding long winning streaks and both feel it's their time to step up and be a new challenger for Georges St-Pierre.

If Ellenberger does win their second fight, he could very well be next in line.

The Match Up Would Be More Exciting Than Their First

5 of 7

Condit and Ellenberger are two of the most dangerous fighters in the welterweight division.

Between them they have 63 fights. Only 11 have gone to a decision.

Both men have KO power and can hold their own on the ground.

Both men are also tough to finish.

There Are Not Many Other Options for Either Men

6 of 7

With the exception of Josh Koscheck, there really aren't too many other guys open to fight Condit or Ellenberger.

Top fighters in the division are either injured or booked.

Other fighters may be open to the fight, but they aren't on the same level as Condit or Ellenberger.

The Winner Would Be a New Challenger for Georges St-Pierre

7 of 7

Although Condit was promised to be next in line after the St-Pierre vs. Diaz fight, he will lose his spot if he loses to Ellenberger.

Both men have worked their to the top of the welterweight division and both me are exciting fighters.

If St-Pierre beats Diaz, Ellenberger or Condit could be the last two elite fighters that he has yet to face.

Both men would provide an interesting match up for both Diaz and St-Pierre.
