Week 9 Fantasy Football Projections: Expect Explosive Games from These Flex WRs

Eric BallNov 4, 2011

The talent pool at wide receiver is incredibly deep this year.

The emergence of A.J. Green, Julio Jones, Eric Decker and Michael Crabtree has given fantasy owners a bevy of options to choose from.

Here are three flex receivers that have performed well thus far, but are ready for mammoth Week 9’s.

Mario Manningham @ New England Patriots

The Giants are going to be in the shootout of the week against the Patriots. Both teams rely heavily on the pass and with good reason, considering the Pats have the worst pass defense in the NFL.

Manningham has led the Giants in targets the past three weeks and is coming off a week where he caught one touchdown and was a high Eli Manning pass away from grabbing another.

With the news that Ahmad Bradshaw has a cracked bone in his foot, I wouldn’t be surprised to see Manning register 50 pass attempts.

Considering No. 1 receiver Hakeem Nicks is banged up, cash in with Manningham.

Sidney Rice @ Dallas Cowboys

If the Seahawks start QB Tarvaris Jackson, Rice produces. He has registered double-digit fantasy points (ESPN Standard Scoring) every time Jackson has played the majority of the game.

With the Cowboys likely to build a huge lead early, the Seahawks are going to be throwing the ball for the majority of the afternoon. Expect Rice to haul in at least 8-10 passes.

Brandon Lloyd @ Arizona Cardinals

Lloyd made the seamless transition from Denver to St. Louis. His fantasy numbers didn’t take the slightest of hits. In fact, two of his best three games this season have been with the Rams. Not bad considering he’s played in a grand total of two games in the blue and yellow.

With QB Sam Bradford’s high ankle sprain progressively getting better, Lloyd may not have to deal with A.J. Feeley this week—a huge plus.

Last but not least, there is the Cardinals defense. Currently ranked 30th in  the league, the youthful secondary has given up over 277 yards through the air every week.

Expect Lloyd to reap the benefits.
