Dallas Cowboys: DeMarcus Ware Eyeing Franchise Sack Record

Alex HallNov 3, 2011

Since his 2005 rookie season, DeMarcus Ware has been a defensive force for the Dallas Cowboys, and after just six years in the league, he's just 2.5 sacks away from becoming the franchise's all-time leader in the category.

Now, the record is a bit jaded due to the fact the Cowboys have been around since 1960 and sacks have only been recorded since 1982, but if Ware continues on his pace for sacking the quarterback this year, he'll find himself well ahead of Jim Jeffcoat's franchise record of 94.5.

The Troy University alum has seen Dallas at their highest and lowest points in recent memory, but the outside linebacker has always been one of the few consistent parts of this team.

Ware talked with Josh Ellis of DallasCowboys.com about nearing the record, to which the linebacker responded:

"

"As a pass rusher you're always aware of [how many sacks you have]. But you just don't talk about it. You get out there and keep working, and the end of the season you just hope you're where you need to be."

"

Looking at his career numbers, it's safe to say Ware must usually feel like he's where he needs to be. The five-time Pro Bowl selection has finished with double digit sacks in each season since 2006, with 12 already in 2011 and a chance to take down Michael Strahan's 22.5 single season sack record.

Ware knows he's close to a tremendous individual accolade, but told ESPN Dallas writer Calvin Watson all he's focused on right now is the Seattle Seahawks and winning a title.

"

"I'm thinking about Seattle because we need to win this game because if we get some wins under our belt you never know where we end up. Green Bay was 8-6 when they won the Super Bowl."

"

If D-Ware can continue being "consistently dominant," as he's called in NFL Madden '12 and win a Super Bowl with the Cowboys, we could see his bust in Canton, Ohio in the years to come.
