WWE News: Vince McMahon Responds to Comment About WWE's Buzz Dying Down
The WWE held a conference call with its investors yesterday to discuss the company’s third quarter earnings. As you might expect, Vince McMahon fielded some very interesting questions.
He was asked who was “the next Rock” and how many hours of footage the WWE has in its tape library, among other things. However, his response to one particular question really stood out.

"The change in creative direction going into Money in the Bank was brought up and how things calmed back down after that. Officials were asked if the reality-based booking would continue or if something else contributed to the big buzz being stalled. Vince responded that he didn’t understand the question and feels that WWE still has a buzz around their brand, a buzz that continues to build. Vince is as optimistic today about the future as he ever has been.
"
In the words of The Miz, really?
McMahon is known for typically being very vague in some of his responses, and that was true at yesterday’s conference call. However, even this is a bit ridiculous.
I highly doubt that McMahon is as optimistic now as he’s ever been at any point in the WWE’s history. I guess that he forgot about the Attitude Era, when TV ratings were astronomically high and “Stone Cold” Steve Austin was making John Cena’s merchandise sales numbers look like nothing.
I don’t really think that Vince didn’t understand the question, either. I mean, he’s a smart man. By saying, “I don’t understand,” he probably meant to say, “I don’t want to address that.”
Come on—he knows that the buzz around the WWE product was way bigger at Money in the Bank than it was at Night of Champions or Hell in a Cell. He just doesn’t want to admit it.
It’s okay, though. We’re not dumb, Vince. We know when the buzz is there and when it isn’t, given the fact that we’re the ones creating it.
There’s a solid amount of buzz now that The Rock is returning, and there was a ton of buzz when Punk was ripping people to shreds in his epic shoot promo.
However, over the last few months? As The Rock might say, hell no.
