Kansas State vs. Oklahoma State: Spread Info, Line, BCS Impact and Predictions

Alex KayNov 3, 2011

Oklahoma State is looking to play for a national title while Kansas State is trying to get their season back on track in Stillwater this Saturday.

The Pokes know that they control their own destiny and overcoming K-State is just another game they need to dominate in order to play on the biggest stage.

Oklahoma beat the heck out of the Wildcats last week and ended their undefeated season, but K-State knows they could still play in a BCS bowl by winning this game so they will fight tooth and nail.

Where: Boone Pickens Stadium, Stillwater, OK

When: Saturday, Nov. 5 at 8:00 p.m. ET

Watch: ABC/ESPN2/ESPN3

Spread: Oklahoma State -21 (via ScoresAndOdds)

This one is tough. Oklahoma State is 7-0 against the spread and has been absolutely crushing Vegas. I think they are getting fed up and are making Kansas State a very attractive pick by getting 21 points.

Kansas State is 6-1 ATS and lost last week by 41 points despite being 13-point underdogs.

I think Oklahoma State is once again the play here because the Pokes have an even stronger offense than the Sooners and a comparable defense, giving up just a bit over a touchdown more per game.

K-State also has their only good win over Baylor by a point, a team that the Pokes smashed out by 25.

Lay the points here since the game is in Stillwater and Oklahoma State’s offense is too powerful for the Wildcats to handle.

Over/Under: 69.5

Over. Oklahoma State could cover this themselves and certainly already has this season.

Both these teams tend to go over more often than not and this should be a shoot-out.

While not an absolute lock, this is pretty low for two high-powered teams who will be trading touchdowns all night long.

Kansas State Key Injuries (via CollegeInjuryReport.com)

WR Sheldon Smith: PRB (Undisclosed)

The senior WR has not done much in the past three games despite being suited up to play last week. He should be ready to go and needs to be if K-State wants a chance to win.

Oklahoma State Key Injuries

WR Josh Cooper: PRB (Hamstring)

Cooper had a slight hamstring pull last week but is expected to be on the field this Saturday. He is the second-leading receiver on the Pokes.

RB Jeremy Smith: PRB (Hand)

Smith left with a hand injury and did not return. Coach Mike Gundy said he should be on the field this week and should solidly contribute as a backup as usual.

BCS/Top 25 Poll Implications

This game has a lot of BCS implications.

Oklahoma State is currently third in the nation but will without a doubt jump to No. 2 as LSU and Alabama, the two teams ahead of them, square off as well this week.

They need to win in order for that to happen and they control their own destiny to make the first national championship game in school history.

Kansas State would love to stop them and revive their BCS dreams that could have been potentially shattered last week in their loss against Oklahoma.

This will be a hard-fought battle between two top-ranked teams.

Keys to Kansas State Win: Step up on defense

The Wildcats gave up 690 yards against Oklahoma last week and Landry Jones eviscerated them for 505 of those and a touchdown through the air.

They need to figure out what went wrong and immediately, as they go against an even stronger offense this week and they cannot afford to concede that many yards again if they want a chance in hell to win.

K-State is certainly not known for their defense this year, ranking 103rd in the nation as of right now. However, it will be up to them to step up this week to win.

Keys to Oklahoma State Win: Stop the run

Kansas State cannot pass the ball, ranking 113th in the nation and gaining just 130.5 yards per game in the air. They win games and score by pounding the rock, currently possessing the No. 20-ranked rushing attack.

If Oklahoma State’s defense can focus on shutting the run down, they will force K-State to pass to get back into the game and it won’t bode well.

Prediction

Oklahoma State 54, Kansas State 21
