NFL Predictions Week 9: Games Sure to Light Up the Scoreboard

Michael DixonNov 3, 2011

The torrid offensive pace that started the season has died down a little bit. The numbers are still pretty big, but defenses are starting to adjust and get used to playing with each other.

It's not going to get any better for the rest of the year. The defenses will keep adjusting, and the bad weather that will come will keep the points down.

But that doesn't mean that we won't see plenty of points this weekend. As a matter of fact, if you're a fan of offense, I would suggest that you keep an eye on these games. They will not disappoint.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers vs. New Orleans Saints

The first game these two teams played featured a 4-0 turnover margin in favor of the Buccaneers. Still, the result was 26-20, which isn't terribly low scoring. The Buccaneers got to play that one more at their style, and won as a result.

Given the memory of that game, the memory of last week's game vs. the Rams, and the fact that this game is in New Orleans, I see this game being played at the Saints' pace. That means that we'll see a lot of points.

That favors the Saints, who will get a measure of revenge in this game. But if I am wrong on that and the Buccaneers win, they will need to score a lot of points to do so.

New York Giants vs. New England Patriots

I wouldn't describe either of these defensive units as good, only opportunistic. They both allow a lot of yards and have a tendency to allow a lot of points.

Still, both teams sit at 5-2. So, if they allow a lot of points and still sit a 5-2, they probably score a lot of points, right? Absolutely!

That's going to happen in this game. In New England, I like the Patriots to roll. They are still nearly impossible to beat at home, at least in the regular season. That will continue here, but a lot of points will be scored either way.

Green Bay Packers vs. San Diego Chargers

In the two aforementioned games, I saw a lot of points and a clear winner, but I wouldn't be shocked if the other team were to win. I am just sure that a lot of points will be scored.

I am predicting the same thing here, but if the Chargers were to win this one, I would be pretty shocked. They have been inconsistent this season and turned the ball over too often. As a result, they are 4-3, not 6-1.

The Packers are not the team to turn the ball over against, but it will happen this week. The Chargers' offense will score, they always do. They just won't outscore the Packers.
