NFL Picks Week 9: Games That Will Shock the World on Sunday

Michael DixonNov 2, 2011

We learn this every week in the NFL, but the NFL is quite unpredictable. Personally, I had a pretty decent record with my Week 8 picks, but I was still left scratching my head on a few games.

Some games, like the Cardinals vs. Ravens, were far closer than I anticipated. Then of course, I was quite wrong on the Saints vs. Rams game, but I know I wasn't alone there.

So, it's established that every week has a great deal of unpredictability to it. But how do we go to that game and predict the unpredictable? Keep a close eye on these games.

Baltimore Ravens vs. Pittsburgh Steelers

Bodog has the Steelers as 3.5-point favorites in this game. So, the winner and loser of this game won't be shocking. These are two pretty evenly matched teams. No massive upset will come from this one.

But Bodog also has the over/under listed at 42, and I have this one going over, way over.

Neither defense has impressed me a lot this year. At least not when compared to their normally elite standards.

I have both teams scoring more than 20 points and going over 42. This one will be far more offensive than people think.

Seattle Seahawks vs. Dallas Cowboys

I have been a Seahawks basher this year. They are just not a very good team, especially away from Seattle. But Bodog is listing the Cowboys as 12-point favorites.

What exactly have the Cowboys done to suggest that they should be 12-point favorites over anyone? This is one of the most inconsistent teams in the league, and that doesn't go from game to game.

On any given possession, the Cowboys can look like the best team in the NFL, only to turn around and look abysmal.

The Seahawks have already beaten one NFC East opponent on the road this year in the Giants. I am not anticipating that again, but I can't for the life of me wrap my head around a 12-point spread.

Chicago Bears vs. Philadelphia Eagles

Here's another game where I am not necessarily going against the perceived winner. Bodog has the Eagles as eight-point favorites.

I think that the Eagles will win, but I am not buying that spread for two seconds. The Eagles haven't been good enough to be favored by eight points over anyone, let alone a team that's above .500.

I know that they are starting to click, and again, I think they will win the game. But eight points is far too generous in this situation. Look for a close game on Monday night.
