Wisconsin, Texas and 5 BCS Top 25 Teams on Upset Alert

Adam SpencerNov 2, 2011

The stretch run is beginning in college football.

November is the last full month of games in the regular season, and plenty of teams are jockeying to get into position for better bowl games.

But plenty of teams will slip up in November, just as the Wisconsin Badgers and Oklahoma Sooners slipped up in October.

So, with that being said, let’s look at five teams currently in the BCS Top 25 that could take a step back this weekend.

No. 21 Texas (vs. Texas Tech)

1 of 5

Texas Tech put a serious damper on Oklahoma’s BCS title hopes a couple weeks ago with a huge upset. They have a powerful passing attack that will light up the scoreboard.

I’m not sure if Texas' offense can match the pace the Red Raiders will set in this game.

If not, this game could be the last time we see the Longhorns in the BCS Top 25 this season.

No. 20 Wisconsin (vs. Purdue)

2 of 5

The Badgers have fallen off a cliff the last two weeks.

A tough loss to Michigan State in the final seconds was followed by an equally tough loss in the final seconds to Ohio State.

Even though they should have no problem beating Purdue, they can’t take anything for granted at this point. If they are down on themselves, they could find that this season will get even worse in a hurry.

Purdue has experience with upsets, ending Illinois’ perfect season a couple weeks ago.

No. 15 Michigan (at Iowa)

3 of 5

The Hawkeyes have a strong offense and a solid defense, so this won’t be an easy game for the Wolverines.

They’ll have to find a way to stop Marvin McNutt, one of the best receivers in the country.

Plus, Iowa is coming off of an embarrassing 22-21 loss to Minnesota last week, so they’ll be playing angry.

No. 8 Oregon (at Washington)

4 of 5

The Huskies have been playing pretty well this season. They are 6-2, and their only two losses have been against ranked teams.

If RB Chris Polk can get going early, he could put a lot of pressure on the Ducks defense.

The Huskies' defense probably isn’t good enough to stop the Ducks, but this is the biggest game of the year for Washington, so they’ll be amped up to pull off the upset.

No. 6 Oklahoma (vs. Texas A&M)

5 of 5

The Aggies have three losses (Arkansas, Oklahoma State and Missouri).

In those three losses, they’ve blown leads in the second half.

So, if head coach Mike Sherman can figure out how to make his guys play better with a lead in the second half, they have a good shot at upsetting the Sooners.

Texas A&M could be undefeated right now; they’re that talented. They just need to stop shooting themselves in the foot.
