NFL Power Rankings: 5 Teams That Should Start Preparing for 2012 NFL Draft

Zach KruseNov 2, 2011

The following seven NFL teams should start preparing for the 2012 draft, because their 2011 seasons are all but over.

Jacksonville Jaguars

A lame duck coach in Jack Del Rio isn't helping the progression of quarterback Blaine Gabbert, who has been terrible to start his NFL career. If the Jags feel OK at that position, they need to get him some help in the receiving corps this April.

Seattle Seahawks

I think the best case scenario for Pete Carroll and the Seahawks would be getting the chance to draft quarterbacks Landry Jones or Matt Barkley. They desperately need a long-term answer at that position.

Denver Broncos

What in the world do the Broncos do in April? I think we're going to see that the Tebow experiment at quarterback will die in a hurry. Does Denver then re-load at that position if they get a top pick? Don't they have to if one of the top guys is available to them?

Arizona Cardinals

The Cardinals have holes along the offensive line and on defense. In my opinion, they need to continue to build the defensive side of the ball. The lack of a pass rush is a concerning issue.

St. Louis Rams

Injuries derailed the Rams' season before it even really started, so getting a bunch of those guys back will help. But they still need to bring in a big time play maker on offense, and the defense could use upgrades at linebacker and cornerback.

Miami Dolphins

There is no "Suck for Luck" and the Dolphins organization will never admit it, but getting Andrew Luck is the only way the 2011 season has any glimmer of hope. Not only would getting the first pick ensure drafting Luck, but it'd also be an attractive selling piece to new coaching candidates.

Indianapolis Colts

As SI's Peter King said on PTI yesterday, the Colts would likely take Luck if they landed the first pick. That would certainly set up an interesting offseason dynamic if that went down. First, the Colts need to see something from Peyton Manning to help make their decision. If the Colts get anything from this season, it's a better understanding of where Manning is at from a physical viewpoint.
